KLM Flying Dutchman - KLM flight on Transavia Metal - Hand Baggage?

I've booked my wife and children on a MCT-AMS-ALC itinerary via klm.com, although the final Alicante leg is a codeshare flight on Transavia metal. A couple of questions if anyone has experienced codeshares on Transavia. Will she have to adhere to Transavia or KLM hand baggage limitations? If it's the Transavia limitations would she be charged if they forced her to place some hand baggage in the hold at the gate in AMS?

Anyone got any advice or information for this particular leg?

No own experience but I think the operating airlines' regulations apply.

My guess is that the luggage would be placed int he hold, but they might not bill for it. Or if they do you could probably get the fees back from KLM.

On a positive note, was able to check my wife and children in online for both the KLM and Transavia sectors, and had the options to select all rows of seats on the Transavia flight including row 1 on the online checkin. Boarding passes printed, will report back on how it goes with the hand carry baggage once my wife arrives!

As I mentioned above, the MCT-AMS-ALC flights were fine, check in was possible online and was all the way through and bags were checked through without a problem, and there were no issues with handbaggage, they seemed to understand that she was on a KLM ticket.
Coming back wasn't so easy, in Alicante the checkin staff were very friendly and helpful, but had a very hard time checking my family in on the system, it took around an hour and with the help of a superviser they managed to check the bags through to final destination and print boarding passes for my wife and son, but not for my daughter. They were very kind to block a seat for my son though (infant ticket, no seat) which was very good of them.
The checkin at Alicante opened 2 hours prior, and was just two desks with very long queues, no priorities for KLM Elite.
In Amsterdam my wife managed to get the additional boarding card, and all was fine.

Overall, not a terrible experience, but would have been nicer to be on KLM metal.

Can I quickly bump this thread to ask two questions?

I'm flying BRS(KL)AMS(HV)RAK in a couple of weeks - ticketed on KL stock.

KL ticket gives me 1PC x 23KG baggage allowance, which would normally be chargeable (and only 20KG) on HV.

Has anyone run into problems with checked baggage on KL tickets at HV outstations?

Second question: I've got an 18 hour (overnight) stopover at AMS. I'm assuming it's fine to check the baggage from BRS to RAK and just have it sit over at AMS, unless anyone has specific experience otherwise.

I'll take Yachtman's experience into account and get to RAK very early for the return leg, to allow for c/in confusion.

Thanks.

As for your first question I can tell you my experience:
I flew MUC - AMS - AGP last month, the AMS - AGP leg codeshare with Transavia. As I checked in at the Elite desk in MUC there was no problem with tagging the bags through final destination and gave me seat 1C. My bag was 22,8kg. When I flew back, ofcourse there was no Elite desk at AGP, there was a long line of waiting passengers. As I finally got through check in they told me it was not possible to tag the bags through and they wanted me to pay extra as the luggage was too heavy. At this point I was getting very angry and ordered to them to get their supervisor, he came and fixed the problem in 1 min.

So for my experience: I will not do it again!

The problem is that Transavia has a very specific network, and very different from KLM. So sometimes one does not really have a choice.

It sounds like the first thing to do is get a supervisor involved! The agents obviously have access to the right systems to check bags and handle these problems, but don't know what to do. It's easy to put a codeshare on another airline's flights, but harder to train their (contract) agents to know how to handle it correctly, particularly when HV's business model is different to KL's.

I chose the KL/HV flight because it was to/from BRS, and cheaper than flying to/from LON. I do wonder what it will be like checking in at RAK....

Update, for the record.

We encountered a problem flying BRS-AMS-RAK. Our layover at AMS was 19 hours. The bags were tagged and through check at BRS to RAK.

On boarding at BRS, the gate agent passed on a message from the KL Station Manager that our bags would be offloaded at AMS because the transit time was more than 12 hours. She couldn't tell me if the bags had been re-tagged, only that a message had been sent to AMS to offload the bags.

The bags didn't appear in AMS. The baggage agent there said there was no message, and that the bags would be transferred to the RAK flight. I had to make several calls to KL and HV, and neither could confirm what was happening.

At check-in for the HV AMS-RAK flight, the agent confirmed the bags had been loaded, and that they'd been told about them specifically.

I've sent a complaint to KL to ask why the Station Manager told us the bags would be offloaded. It's the first time I've heard of a 12 hour rule on bag transit?

I use them regular from ALC to AMS and the staff at ALC are pretty strict on carry on sizes and do a lot of checking
