Don't know if this is targeted or not. One person in the family received this email but the other person who also has flying club did not.

That's better than the UK snailmail invite I received yesterday. I mentioned this in another thread so won't repeat, except to note that the offer was for just 200 miles.
Oh, yes. The offer expired on the day I received it.
Something tells me they are not keen to promote UK online shopping - but in that case, why would they bother printing up the leaflet and mailing it to me with my statement? :p

Wow, I have never receive any miles promotion in the US that is close to the expiration date that make it un-usable. Citibank and Barclay in the US even send you promos through snailmail and email so that you won't overlook them.

Something tells me they are not keen to promote UK online shopping - but in that case, why would they bother printing up the leaflet and mailing it to me with my statement? :pI am UK-based and received the 1000 miles promo for online shopping (need to spend at least £35 between 30 March and 30 April - and also the 250 bonus for the shop away miles finder)*. I have, however, never used the VS shopping portal before and the wording of the promo (same as wincloud5 above except for substitution of £ for $) suggests that the 1000 is for making one's first purchase. If you have used the VS shopping portal before, therefore, it is likely you would not receive this offer as it would not be applicable to you.
*: bizarrely, the offer says "spend between £35 and £1000" but it would be beyond bizarre if they denied the bonus miles to somebody spending more than £1000 before 30 April.

Note that although the offer email says £35-£1000, when you go to shop away, it actually states the minimum amount as £50.
My partners virgin account got this offer, having never used the shopping portal. My account did not get it (I have previously used the portal).

I noticed this also, very confusing and a little bit unjust that the same offer has been mailed to US members at the same with the requirement for $35 spend vs our £35/£50 spend.
I received the email, although I would suspect even if you have not you may still be eligible.

In the uk, the 1000 mile bonus also applies to john lewis. Even better john Lewis's has a triple miles offer for a first purchase from them. I bought an apple airport express for £79. I see based points of 158(standard rate of 2 per £), bonus miles of 316, and 1000 bonus miles all pending. Total 1474, not bad at all.

Virgin shopping portal gives points for hotel stays: Marriott, Accor, Best Western and more. I've never seen that on a shopping portal. Fantastic!

Apologies if I'm being a little slow here, but how does one claim the UK 1000 mile bonus? I've been holding back on a few intended JL purchases until I got to the £1000 mark (as that's the limit for the triple miles offer), was about to go ahead, but obviously 7000 miles would be nicer than 6000 :)
thanks

I didn't have to claim it. Simply got it as per the terms of the offer, in that I had not previously made a purchase, and my purchase was high enough, and of course was with one of the participating shops, (john lewis)

Ok, thanks - I didn't get an email on this myself and the 1000 miles isn't mentioned on the website, so wasn't sure if there was a special link/code to use for this... will see if it works for me.
Incidentally (and perhaps this is the paranoid pedant in me coming out), it does say:
"Offer is valid ... on your first purchase when spending a minimum of £50 and up to £1000 in a single transaction"
So if I spend £1500, does the mileage bonus part get capped at £1000 of spend, or does that simply not qualify as a valid transaction under the offer??

I imagine the only place you will get an answer to that is shopaway/virgin, and unless you are considering making a purchase of >£1000, does it matter ?

It does indeed matter, this is not a hypothetical question! As I said, I've been saving up a few bits to buy, and it's surprisingly easy to rack up a big bill at JL
And yes, you might think that Virgin would have some idea wouldn't you? But the sound of furious head scratching when I called them earlier, coupled with the lack of the call back that was promised, suggests otherwise!
I may play it safe and split my order, but no easy way to get it very close to £1000, and the miser in me wants every single mile that I can squeeze out here...

Well, if virgin can't tell you, and assuming no one comes on here with experience of a similar scenario, you have to decide to play safe and stay under the £1000, or take the gamble.

Just to round this out, I played it safe, and put an order in at £949. And lo and behold, I got 5694 miles in total, which I think was a pretty good result when it was all stuff I needed anyway. Depending on your definition of 'need', that is... :D
