As this is my residence for the next few days, I thought I'd post a quick review.

Check In and Staff in General

Check in was fast and courteous. In fact, all my dealings with staff at this hotel have been positive (so far).

Room

The room is small and has something I've not seen in a hotel room in a long time: A real, actual single bed! There's a tiny bathroom with a shower that is quite difficult to get to the right temperature without flooding the place. There is a flat screen TV with a small selection of English language news channels and pay options.

In the room, there is no glassware, just two disposable plastic cups. They don't replace these! There is a fridge in the room and they leave two bottles of water (one still, one sparkling) every day. These are complimentary.

I've not been able to get a clear answer on whether or not the tap water in this hotel is drinkable. Rome has some of the cleanest water in the world but in practice, basic drinkability depends on the building!

WiFi is free and seems to be reasonably fast.

Bars and Restaurants

There is no restaurant at this Four Star hotel, just a small dining area for breakfast (€15 - cold options only this morning), a lobby bar and a rooftop bar. At the moment, only the rooftop bar is open and it gets cold in the evening.

Overall

Take an IBIS class hotel, rebrand it as a four star Mercure while continuing to deliver IBIS standard service and you get the Mercure Delta Colosseo. Four stars? You've got to be having a giraffe. Ultimately, this hotel is all about location with a 5 minute walk to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.

I stayed there twice, just over a year ago, and have to agree with you - the basic rooms aren't up to much. If I remember rightly, the single room I got given on my second stay had a shelf above the (tiny) bed with the tea, coffee, telephone, etc on - the room was that small that there was nowhere else to put it.

There is at least one larger room on the top floor. I got upgraded to that on my first visit there. It had a larger bed, sofa, roomy bathroom, plenty of desk space and a view of the Colosseum. So, the cupboard I got given on the second visit came as a bit of a shock!

I also have to say that the place is a bit of a maze. The room numbering didn't make a lot of sense to me!

I was chatting with one of the bar staff on my second to last night there and this hotel is now undergoing some serious renovation. At the end of this, there should be fewer, but larger rooms.

Thanks for the update. Was thinking about going there but now I rather wait.
