Which is why the AA has published a brand new book, Images of Britain, with a collection of more than 400 beautiful photographs of some of the best views across the land.

Nuff said.

How can you compare the b*gg*r me reaction of leaving Westminster Tube station by the Bridge Street exit to the tranquillity of Castlerigg Stone Circle on a summer evening when the tourists have gone home and the wind has died down?

Many of the photos on the website were quite pretty in a 'I haven't seen real scenery to compare it with' kind of manner. One of my favourite views is the view from the drovers road between Amulree and Kenmore out across Loch Tay and the mountains beyond. You feel like you are on top of the world and can see for miles. But it's so far off the beaten track, it's virtually unknown - thankfully.

This photo doesn't really do it justice.

Also, the view from Struie Hill across the Dornoch Firth. Love to stop here and just watch the world...

And finally the north-west coast of Shetland is breathtaking. Although it wasn't distinctly more stormy when we were there

I'm lucky, my job takes me to all kinds of odd corners of the UK, and there are all kinds of views and scenery. And I took the images from the geograph website which is great for finding photos of all over the UK http://www.geograph.org.uk

Well, somewhere in the list would have to be the views from northern part of Skye back over the southern part of the island and across to the mainland. And "The Road to the Isles" – the road to Mallaig – sports some pretty phenomenal views as well.

Equally, though, the views from Waterloo Bridge (both directions) take some beating and show, in my "view", some of the finest urban–aquatic landscapes in the world.

I agree. It's just so glorious. I walk across Hungerford Bridge (from Embankment to the Royal Festival Hall) every couple of weeks and I'm always breathtaken (is that a word) by the wonder of it all. Like it or not, our city is one of the grandest and most picturesque in the world for phenomenal and imposing cityscapes.

With that being said, my favourite view in Britain is from Parliament Hill in Hampstead Heath looking southward. On a nice day, you can see twenty miles in every direction across all of South and East London, and it feels like you're sitting on top of the city. Second to none.

As this is FT, I have say my favourite is the westbound approach to LHR. As the aircraft turns right over Canary Wharf it seems to momentarily hang in mid air before following the Thames through central London. Stunning views if the weather is favourable and it brings a genuine smile to my face, with my nose pressed up to the window.

After a hard week's work, I always look forward to my little treat on the flight home.

Standing on top of Poltrus Burn Milecastle on Hadrian's wall near Haltwhistle is wonderful.

Travelling by train between Preston and Carlisle in the Tebay and Lune Gorge area - I just absolutely love it.

On the A82 from about Dumbarton to Mallaig - road or rail

The ferry companies should really play Vera Lynn at this point. :)

No, on the A7

(I zoomed in to see the road number - I knew it wasn't the A68 so couldn't think of any other two way A road crossing the border).

No, on the A7

Yes that's what the site said where I Googled it from.

Unlike the townies here London views certainly wouldn't figure in my list of best views...in fact no town or city would.
I have some favourites especially of Rannoch Moor but only when the sun is shining.

The approach up the Thames takes second place but first for me is a view probably only a few dozen have viewed, due to it only being visibly from a horse, on a tiny lane not on any normal routes. To some the view is boring, it is fields, trees and a distant town, but for me it is everything I love about England - you ride up a hill and as you do the hedgerows grow shorter but closer, the track narrows and you round a corner to this amazing view. Ride on a crisp frozen morning, as I did a couple of months ago and it feels like the world is deserted. I love it and miss it, it was my place of sanity (I could scream and shout and rant with only my horse listening, could cry with only a hairy shoulder to care, and just sit and breathe when the world was going insane). I miss my horses but the view was just as awesome.

To the extent that "someone" here decided to have their wedding reception there, in significant part so the visitors would enjoy the view.

It snowed (yes, not many balmy summer days in February). You could hardly see across the river !

Even the local dump looks great in a nice sunrise. :D

Have to say the view from Primrose Hill is decidedly disappointing judging by this picture. Horrific number of people about as well.
