Have booked our flight to SA mid March next year(J awards on QF hence early booking). The main reason is a cruise from CPT but 9 days between arrival in JNB and leaving on the cruise from CPT.Plan is to overnight at JNB as a 14+ hour flight from Australia.

Plan next day is to fly to DUR,probably pick up a rental car and drive to the battlefields.Just wondering approx time to drive and the condition of the roads as said to be gravel.Thinking of staying at Fugitive drift or Isandlwana Drift. Will stay 2 nights there as that should enable to tour both Rorkes Drift and Isandlwana battlefields. Our son has the same name as one of the VC winners at Rorkes hence the interest.

Plan then is to drive to Cathedral peak.Any suggestions on what could be seen en route. We will have 3 nights there. We want to see Tugela Falls as Tugela is our granddaughters name. However I am a little challenged mobility wise so walking to the Falls is out of the question.Cathedral peak picked because a helicopter company is based there and 3 nights in case the weather prevents the helicopter from flying.

It will then be back to DUR for a 4pm flight to CPT.I am sure that will leave us plenty of time to get there. We will be 11days post cruise in Botswana,Zambia which will be our safari time.

thanks for any further suggestions.

.We want to see Tugela Falls as Tugela is our granddaughters name. However I am a little challenged mobility wise so walking to the Falls is out of the question. When I was last there (at least 15 years ago), getting to the falls involved climbing a chain ladder up a vertical cliff. Not a great height, but enough to deter those suffering from acrophobia. A helicopter flip would be your only alternative.

Can't help you with the battlefields roads, I'm afraid.
