Travel Products - Best carry-on size that is also good for checking w/ glass bottles inside?

My last suitcase got stolen recently, so I'm in the market before a trip at the end of April. I see Rimowa Salsa Deluxe discounted everywhere due to "discontinued" - which makes me excited for a deal, but also nervous to see what the improvements will be and why it was discontinued in the first place.

I'm open to that price range. I've seen the Rimowa stuff, the Tumi Vapour, have heard Briggs is worth checking into... any ideas? Pretty committed to hard-sided for the extra protection for frequent glass carrying, but I suppose if there's a great soft one to get, I was using one without incident until this month...
