I'm pleased to announced that kwildnj will be serving as the NYC Forum's first Ambassador. As many of you know, he has been very helpful to many visitors to our forum and has set a consistently positive example in this regard across FlyerTalk. Thus, we're very excited that he will be contributing to the community further in this official capacity.
While the Ambassadors in other forums respond to questions in Newbie Lounge threads, we have no current plans to start such a thread in the NYC Forum, since we already provide individualized advice for visitors to help them plan their trips. Thus, kwildnj will be here to welcome visitors to the forum and to help point them in the right directions.
Please join me in thanking kwildnj for volunteering his time to the NYC Forum and FT as a whole. ^

Hello All,
Thank you dstan for the kind words, and the vote of confidence in selecting me to be the first NYC Ambassador. ^
A little about myself. I am a 14th generation New Jerseyan, with my 13th-great grandfather emigrating to America in 1630s, only to be killed by Indians in 1640 in the Communipaw Massacre. I love to travel, and have set foot in 44 of the 50 United States, and plan to complete my goal of visiting all 50 by sometime next year.
I currently volunteer once weekly at Traveler's Aid at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and have a wealth of resources to get to the bottom of most anything which may come through this forum. I admittedly do not know everything, though I will work to find an answer, or at least point you in the right direction. I will also be the first to admit that I have a much broader knowledge of New Jersey and the Hudson Valley region of New York State than the city itself. When not here in the NYC forum, you can find me in the United forum, as well as passing through other Airlines as well.
A brief housekeeping note, keep in mind, I am not a moderator. I cannot edit other posts, nor can I merge threads, or move things around. While I welcome PM's from anyone, please know that for such matters, I will refer you to dstan. So remember, if you need a moderator, dstan's the man.:D

I don't know what "ambassador" means but in light of the statement above, what do you see your role in the New York City Forum?

For starters, the NYC forum covers the entire NYC Metropolitan area, inclusive of the city itself, as well as NJ, the lower portion of New York State, Long Island, as well as to an extent, Fairfield County in Connecticut.
I never said I knew NOTHING about New York City, just that I was stronger with knowledge of the aformentioned areas. Neither an ambassador nor moderator for that matter, is expected to know everything about the forum they serve.
If I do not know something, I will either use the resources at my disposal to find the answer to the question, or refer the poster to a source of information. I appologize if my knowledge bank is not up to your standards, but you also have to remember we are all volunteers here, working for the betterment of the Flyertalk community as a whole.

From where I'm sitting, he just asked a question. Just my two cents. (Pennies are still legal tender here.) ;)

My ham-fisted attempt at an explanation was in the OP:
While the Ambassadors in other forums respond to questions in Newbie Lounge threads, we have no current plans to start such a thread in the NYC Forum, since we already provide individualized advice for visitors to help them plan their trips. Thus, kwildnj will be here to welcome visitors to the forum and to help point them in the right directions.
The Ambassador Team Leader, eightblack, has stated it more eloquently and clearly in other forums:
The role of an Ambassador is to provide new members a welcoming hand to enquiries, to provide guidance and assistance on program updates/changes and to assist with the overall management of the forum.

Indeed. Of course, everyone who answers a question in this forum is a volunteer as well. :)
