Hi everyone,

Qantas isn't really my domain so I've got a bit of a newbie question for y'all in the know. I read about a similar topic just yesterday onthis forum but didn't quite get what I wanted. Here goes...

I'm booked to fly WLG - CNS in July, via SYD both ways in Y (a mixture of Q and M actually). I am not a member of QFF and my question is - can I join QFF and then buy and upgrade through the Manage Booking tool? Or am I ineligible as the booking has already been made?

Furthermore - assuming I can upgrade, would I be required to pay the difference between my fare and a Business fare or could I buy miles and do it that way?

I am looking at upgrading the CNS-SYD-WLG flights.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

You can upgrade by paying the fare difference (effectively cancelling your existing ticket and buying a new one, with the existing cost as credit towards the new fare).

Alternatively you can request an upgrade via Manage My Booking, and using QFF points.

Domestic legs can be confirmed immediately if there is availability in U class, otherwise they become standby.

International legs are standby, and are processed according to QF status and fare class. Note that international legs booked in N, O, Q and E classes are generally not eligibe for upgrade requests.

I don't believe there's any requirement to be part of the QFF scheme when making the booking: after signing up you can login, add your existing bookings by using your PNRs, and then request upgrades.

Hi Scanman - welcome to the Qantas Board.

Isn't your biggest issue likely to be - since you're not already a member - having enough points to upgrade? Do you have points sitting somewhere eligible to be transferred into a new QFF account?

You'd need 16,000 to upgrade Discount Economy for each leg - a total of 32,000 points. Points are required at the time of requesting the upgrade ... [Edited to say] Domestic M is Full Economy so would need 10,000 to upgrade the leg.

AFAIK, you can't purchase points to upgrade in this way - the only way to purchase points is to top up an Award Booking (and then to a maximum of 15% of that "fare price").

Also, T&Cs state that upgrades are not available on International Fares booked in Q.

Regards,

BD

I know that you can pay $450NZD to upgrade to Business WLG-SYD at the airport if space is available. I do not know f you can do this at SYD for the SYD-WG flight.
As others have stated the the domestic flights require an eligible fare and points.
