What generally are the lowest prices for MVD, SCL, or EZE? I'm leaning towards booking a Jan/Feb/Mar '13 mileage jog/vacation and these are three places that are near the top of my to-do list. Quick checks showed $1300+ fares so not thrilled by that. But at least the SEA-JFK-EZE priced out same as SEA-DFW-EZE and ended up with another 1400 EQM R/T :)

Try June/July/Aug. The seasons are switched in SA, so it's summer there when it's winter in USA.
The 'words' SCL, MVD, EZE and MR do not go together. Prices don't get much lower than what you found, especially not for the last year and a half. Mid-December to February is the local high season.

Yeah, the deep south america flights are expensive. The local economies are very strong right now and the flights are sold out, or nearly so, at high CPM. It's a good use for redeeming miles, but an expensive way to rack them up.
End of December, January and Carnival are the peak times. You can get some discounts in early Dec and late Feb / March where you can enjoy the summer weather at somewhat cheaper prices.
The only trick i've noticed is that West Coast US to South America costs the same as east coast, so you can get an extra 6k miles in that way.

i was surprised when looking at dfw-scl-cor for an aug trip in 1st week of mar...
it was $1106 or so....now up to the norm of $1700 ish.....couldn't book for various reasons.....
so look 6 mo out for a fare data point.....july & aug are often good historically....for mar/apr trips via eze, we used to book in oct, but i haven't been to fish for quite a while....

Try checking getting to LIM first. Via LAX preferably (LAN). Then front there you should have much cheaper options. With LAN Chile/Peru TAM, AZ and all that.

Sometimes I see $800-900 r/t to MVD on TACA out of LAX, SFO, or MIA. As low as low $600s for 1-way and only about 150-250 more to make it a round-trip.
The AviancaTACA group, which includes TACA affliate LACSA, is joining Star Alliance either by the end of this mornth or sometime mid-May, depending on what you read.
Those prices are never there when I have to make the trip to or from MVD, sadly. But I see them on Kayak a lot. And not just on Vayama bulk fares but on Taca.com itself, or Orbtiz as fully-disclosed miles-earning public fares.
I've gotten $870 roundtrips MIA-MVD via GRU on TAM, for somebody who is in *A now (but not for much more than a year). You don't need a visa to transit though Sao Paolo as long as you stay airside. Though the nasty Miami ground staff often needs reminding. Great service once youŕe on the plane or if you have to visit their Montevideo city center ticket store. Just watch out in Miami and plan hours in line for check-in.
Once in a very rare while I see LAN for sub-$1000 r/t MIA-MVD via the SCL-MVD hop, or from LAX via LIM-SCL-MVD. That gets you RDM and EQM in all oneworld programs and in Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

Hi guys,
looking from Europe I sometimes find nice deals to GRU (and lately to GIG too).
Mostly in Aug, Sep, Oct and Feb, Mar, Apr you get the best deals.
HEre are my experiences for *A collectors:
- AC to EZE goes via YYZ & SCL. With LH status it gives 25k EQM for ca. 1000EUR (r/t ai)
- LX offered in C to GRU for 1100 EUR (ca. 30k EQM). It was a flash sale (r/t ai).
These have been the best deals in the last 4 years when I started to travel regularly to ARG because of family in COR.
I could imagine to get a bit out of JJ. Many interconti fares are MPM and if you get a nice-jump-around (e.g. home-north Brazil - GRU/GIG-GRU/GIG-(POA/CWB)-IGU/AEP/EZE/SCL).
I am looking for ideas for OW miles.
