While making my reservations at the Park Hyatt Chicago, I got an eStandby Xtra Offer for 1 extra night for $225. Does anyone know how likely I'll be able to get the extra night at that rate? How likely are hotels going to give you that extra night?

I'll be staying a total of 4 nights and was wondering if its possible to make a separate reservation for the last night and cancel at check-in if I get the eStandby Xtra Offer for $225?

As with all the eStandby offers, this one is offered on a space-available basis. If there are rooms available at checkin, they will confirm an extra night for $225. If not, you check out as originally reserved. In that sense, reserving the extra night ahead of time at that property will only work against you.

No one here can tell you how likely it is the property will have a room available to be sold, especially since you didn't mention the dates (or even day of week) of your stay.

I'll be staying May 21-25th.

How does reserving the extra night work against me? I plan to reserve a fully refundable rate for the night of May 24th, and on May 21st at check in, if I find out that I didn't get the standby rate, then I will just confirm the reservation on the last night. If I do get, then I will just cancel that 2nd reservation.

Would that work?

.. except if your second reservation is holding that very last room they have available -- then you've just booked yourself out of a lower rate room. that said, anyone else could be holding that room, so if you prefer to play it safe (rather than moving hotels at the last minute), then having a refundable reservation is the best way to go.

I guess that's true. But I'm willing to take the chance rather than move to a different hotel.

anyone have experience doing something like that? I'm really hoping that the park hyatt chicago doesn't sell out. The rates aren't too bad so I'm guessing there nothing significant in town that week
