EL AL Matmid - Points Expiring Soon - Recommendations?

I just got an e-mail that I have 1546 points expiring on July 1. This is annoying, to say the least since my Delta miles never expire. Any thoughts from the group on how to get around this if I'm not sure where I want to fly? i.e. can I make a reservation for a year from now and then change it to something else/get the points back?

I will tell you what to do exactly:
On June 30th, issue a bonus voucher using those points (i.e 1400 for a round ticket voucher to NYC).
This voucher will be valid until June 30th, 2013.
You don't need to book a flight right now. For instance, you can book (and ticket) a flight in April 2014 to NYC on June 29th, 2013.

Do they allow you to transfer Miles?
I think they used to but I recall it being very expensive.

You can always donate your points. I believe donated points don't expire.
