Crowne Plaza Hotel Vienna (http://www.e-traveller.net/lh738/triprep/03vie/vie-crowneplaza-vienna-stay030519.html)
+ duvet (not only a basic blanket covered in white sheets)
+ coffee/tea maker
+ complimentary coffee at the lobby in the morning (if I remember correctly)
- unsure about upgrade or not (I had booked a room with a view. I don't know what was special about the view from this room. The view was definitely not towards Vienna center.)

The hotel is located on the "Donauinsel". The room rate is quite ok - maybe due to the somewhat off location (5-10min walk to underground station. IMO, the location isn't that bad. There are also many restaurants on the "Donauinsel" and a lot of nightlife - especially in the summer time).

The hotel advertises a "2 crown offer": complete minibar + 24h internet access in the business office (= 2 PCs next to the lobby) for 25EUR.

Holiday Inn Vienna City (http://www.e-traveller.net/lh738/triprep/03vie/vie-holidayinn-viennacity-stay030520.html)
+ duvet (not only a basic blanket covered in white sheets)
+ coffee/tea maker
+ newspaper at the door in the morning
- unsure about upgrade or not
- a rather bright light is in the room from luminous advertising on the street (curtains are too small)

You need about 10-15min to walk to the "Karlsplatz"; an underground station is about 5-10min away.
The room was rather basic - but contained anything you need and was rather new. Buffet breakfast was included and contained a broad variety. IMO, the hotel is quite a good decission (the same applies to the Crowne Plaza) if you want to earn points and avoid a pricy (but luxury) Inter-Continental, Westin, Imperial, Marriott, Hilton, ...

Thanks for posting this and the link to the hotel photos. HI and Crowne Plaza look a bit simple (on your pictures). I might go to Vienna end of this month; just for fun with Mrs. USAFAN.
Right now I feel, that we should stay at the Hilton Danube; only 10,000 Hilton Points. But first I try Priceline. When I get a 4 or 5 star hotel for 100 Euros more or less, we should be O.K.
4 Star: Marriott, Hotel Mercure Wien, City
Sofitel, Mercure Nestroy
Somebody got this: 4* Vienna Mercure Nestroy 23/9 - 27/9 $60/night
Thanks again.

I agree with you. I stayed a second time at the Crowne Plaza and had a similiar room. The HI and Crowne Plaza have rates around 90EUR during the week (on 6c.com). Starwood, Hilton, and Marriott (Renaissance Vienna 139EUR on marriott.com during the week; better rates during the weekend which ends with a stay from Sa/So and not So/Mo) are much more expensive. If the preference is the earning of miles, HI and Crowne Plaza are fine. If somebody seeks for a somewhat better/special/or luxury property, HI and Crowne Plaza drop out. I have no experience with priceline in Vienna. The Hilton deal sounds very good, too. (maybe another option is SPG: US $60 and 4,000 Starpoints per night for Category 4 hotel = Bristol in Vienna)
Most likely, I'll be in Vienna at the end of June (during the week), too.

The information packed from Austria (from NYC) just arrived. Plenty of good information.
From 19th to 22nd of June the have the DANUBE ISLAND FESTIVAL (Europe's biggest youth party, 3 Mio. visiters..); near this Danube Hilton!?!
We have to make my decision if, when and how we go to Vienna. I arrive in FRA, if the weather is O.K., we will go to Austria, Sued Tirol or so. If not, I book a Last Minute flight to .... where the weather is nice.
Thanks again.

Anything more recent about these two properties?

Not stayed at the HI or CP, but got an extremely positive stay back in June at the IC.
Given that usually it is just priced 30/40€ more than the CP, but you get full RA bennies end eventually Club Lounge access, it is definitely worth the price difference, especially speaking of room upgrades that are almost inexistant at non-IC properties.
Then if you have a spare bogof cert... :D

Than don't forget that the CP is quite far from the action being across the Danube...

Check my previous post here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4296240&postcount=116)

Actually, given there is some trade show on during the dates I'm looking at the CP is more expensive than the IC. And from the looks of the pix on the linked site, it really isn't a premium property in the way most CPs are, just a glorified mid-range HI charging a lot more than it should. And you're correct about being out of the action.

I've booked an award night at the IC, where it seems even though I booked a Superior room, my res now shows a King Exec with view, though I don't believe that this includes lounge access as there is a specific IC Club category. (This is the first time a res has shown the changed room category when I check my res a few days after making the booking.)
