Found a good fare (T) from MCI-BWI via ATL, DTW, or MSP for May 1, 2012. I paid for the fare and I will get 2,399 MQM for the flights I have chosen. Usually, Delta wants over $300 for this route. I wonder if demand is down. There were plenty of seats open on each segment.:)

I know it is not a true mileage run. More of a segment run. It sucks living in the middle of the bloody country, but it has me in my own house and with a full time job that I could not get in California. Otherwise, I may be going on true mileage runs instead of starting in the middle and working my way either east or west.

DL has various opportunities available to the West coast for $160. MCI-LA is usually available. Check it out.

I am in mid-Michigan (MBS) but can fly out of FLT or DTW. How do you set up ITA to find such runs? I would love to get a few in this year in hopes of adding 20K MQMs this year; I am trying to hit the million mile mark on Delta and that is what I need. BTW, I already tapped AE cards for the bonuses so flights are my only option.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Sometimes people use miles for the more expensive positioning run to the east or west coast.
Then with ITA, that 300 mile radius search is amazing. You just work your way along each coast with it.
You can also use the 300 mile radius search just at the destinations, with "DTW, FLT, MBS" as the origin.
Use "/alliance skyteam", since once in a while Delta will team up with an Alaskan flight to yield a reasonable deal. I found a MSP-SEA-ONT flight that way last year.
I'm not sure if I hit the right answer. Your question was pretty open. But coming from MSP, I struggle with the same issues. And struggle not to go green-eyed over those coastal deals.

Thanks for the flight info. I would like to know how to find them using ITA. How did you run across this one?

He was trying to help me figure out a way to get 20K miles that I need this year. Thank you!

I guess I should have been more specific. I keep seeing people post about a 3 stop one-way / 6 stop RT flight for a couple of hundred of dollars, netting them thousands of miles. I was asking how do you find these using ITA. Is it just brute force - trying a bunch of combinations and days - or is there a way to tell ITA a starting point, a fare price max and it comes back with options? I would like to do something like DTW-LGA-ATL-SLC-LAX instead of just DTW-LAX direct.
And what is the 300 mile radius search? Is that if you only want quick trips to get the 500 miles/segment?
Thanks.

I'm also MCI but AA Plat, trying to find an MR myself.
DL has a number of dates available this month and next for MCI-ANC for $457. MCI-MSP-ANC-ATL-MCI. Since you're Gold, you'd get 14,272 at 3.24 cpm.
AS is also flying for the same fare but it's MCI-SEA-ANC-SEA-MCI, so fewer miles.
