Just curious to learn if it is possible to arrive at MVD the night before, for an early flight the next morning.

The latest info at sleepinginairports.net about MVD is from 2004.

Think there is a brand new terminal as of 2010.

Hope someone here has some more recent info as to ability to spend night at MVD.

Thanks !

How early is your flight?

I honestly don't know whether they close the airport at night, but I'm one of those people who would almost always prefer to sleep in a real bed before a flight, no matter how early it is.

How long will you be in MVD before your flight? If you're staying at a hotel, couldn't you leave your bags there your last night, go out really late, and then take a cab to the airport?

Alternatively, find a hotel in Carrasco where you can have a nice dinner, crash for a while, and then take a cheap/quick cab ride to the airport so you're not so wrecked during the flight?

MVD is one of the most pleasant cities in South America - I'd enjoy it as much as you can!

Spending 5 days in Montevideo.

Intl flight departs MVD at 0600 (MVD-GRU-MCO-JFK).

Assume that I need to be there at least by 0400.

Under the impression that the queue to reach check-in agent is not as orderly as in US, and that unless there extra-early, still could miss flight even if physically at airport at 0400.

2:40 to make connection in GRU.

God, give yourself a normal night's sleep and just take an early cab from the city, or - if you're really concerned - spend the night in Carrasco by the beach, which is right by the airport.

MVD is a very small, very efficient airport. If you get there two hours before your flight, you should have no problems whatsoever. Especially at that hour, the airport will have very few people in it.

Oh, and some of the worst check-in experiences I've ever had have been in the US. When I've flown through MVD (most recently last September), it's been a breeze.

You can be there at 5AM and be perfectly fine. I've taken several regional flights with lugagge to check with around 60 minutes to spare without problem. I concur - stay in Carrasco and leave your hotel at 4:30AM.

MVD is a great airport but you don't need that much time. It's very efficient from what I recall when passing through a couple of years ago.

Also - since you'll have gotten up early, there's an area with recliner-type chairs in the gate area. Very comfy if you can snag one - probably not a lot of competition for it that early. ;)
