QF141/QF114 are the current flights which position the A332 into AKL so it can operate to LAX. Once AKL-LAX goes offline from 6 May these flights revert to the 738.

Now, when I saw the announcement about these flights switching out of the A332 to the 738, I assumed that it would go to Jetconnect. Looking at the QF schedules, however, they show the operator as Qantas rather than Jetconnect for Qantas... which implies that they are going to be mainline VH frames rather than the ZK ones.

Anyone know if this is (a) correct; and (b) if so whether the plan is for the IFE equipped mainline frames to operate them? It's a relatively short flight but I'd still like my IFE.

VH aircraft operate across the tasman quite frequently especially when a JC aircraft goes in for service.

I believe they do their best to get a newer aircraft to operate these flights, but there would be no guarantee

I guess there is simply not enough equipment to service all the schedules - maybe JQ will step in?

I do not know for certain but with the extra flights for the RWC last year I noticed lots of 737 flights with the old roo on the tail, not to mention the 767 that also came in. I believe there was one A330 flight into WLG but do not know if this was the latest configuration. On the whole I would be very disappointed with QF if they did substitute an old domestic 737 on this route, especially with all the advertising they have done regarding their new 737 service across the Tasman.

The majority of TT schedules are still JC metals, wouldn't be too hard to avoid QF mainline.... Having said that, last minute aircraft change can still happen, just try ur luck... lol

The daily pattern for the 8 JetConnect 738 is something like ...

1. AKL-BNE-AKL-BNE-AKL
2. AKL-MEL-AKL-MEL
3. MEL-AKL-MEL-AKL
4. WLG-SYD-WLG-MEL
5. MEL-WLG-SYD-WLG
6. SYD-CHC-SYD-AKL
7. AKL-SYD-AKL-SYD (starting with QF142 @ 0800)
8. AKL-SYD-AKL-SYD-AKL (starting with QF50@ 0615)

... there isn't the flexibility to slot in an extra SYD-AKL-SYD in the morning for QF141/114.

VH-VZT has been subbing for ZQA, ZQB, and ZQC this month as they have been rotated through some maintenance.

It used to be that at check-in, you'd have to ask for the rego as that would determine if you needed to buy a book before boarding, but not any more.

114 and 141 are now operated by Jetconnect, with the QF45/46 SYD-CHC vv service switching to mainline.

Am I incorrect in my understanding that these flights will usually be operated by the newest QF aircraft (i.e. with Personal entertainment).

Could SYD-CHC not being operated by Jetconnect anymore be a precursor to CHC becoming JQ only?

any QF route could become a JQ route at a moments notice, there is plenty of evidence to support that.

ZQN is the other NZ destination served by Qantas mainline flights. It seems to be served by a mix of 737-800s, some new (less than 3 years) and some old. Although looks like it gets a good proportion of newer jets. Migh give a good indication of what CHC will get assuming the pattern continues.

IIRC, wasn't there a posting some time back describing how ZQN operations has special requirements compared with other airports? In this case, there may be no relativity with CHC patterns.

Aircraft and technical crew need to be RNP capable.
