Travel with Children - Stroller/Pram not returned at gate?

Hi,

While travelling to London Gatwick with our 3 month old a year ago, we gave them our stroller just before boarding the plane. When we disembarked they informed us the stroller would not be returned until after customs.

We are now flying to Heathrow. Does anyone know if they have the same policy there?

Thanks.

It tends to depend on the airline and even that's not consistent :/ Which airline are you flying with?

odd, because the people we met at the gate seemed to be gatwick workers and they blamed it on the airport, not the airline

air canada

Not sure but usually in U.K. airports, strollers are returned with the checked luggage.

Careful as they can be on a different carousel, maybe with the special handing items.

When my daughter used a stroller we found that at Gatwick it was the airport and at Heathrow it varied, short haul it was consistently given back after disembarking and long haul it was given back at the gate around 80% of the time, i don't know for Air Canada however

It is a serious issue that can be easily changed to the benefit of all families traveling with young children. Check this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-children/1329792-stroller-buggies-gate-repatriation-major-uk-airports.html
