Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - Wife is booked on a flight that doesn't exist

Hope someone can advise.
My wife has been booked on a return flight to the US, the return being SFO > LHR on VS042 on June 22nd.
I am trying to book a flight out a couple of weeks later and to return on the same flight.
The Virgin website lets me pick that flight number but then says it is not available and pick a different return time.
Spoken to Virgin customer support and they said they cannot find a record of this flight being available, it may be an IT error, and my wife might get moved to a different flight time.
Unfortunately all flights have increased on this route for this day over the last few days and if she gets moved, my flight will increase by a significant amount if I match my flight.
Any ideas what our options are as we are on a VERY tight budget for this trip and the increase in cost may mean we have to cancel.

In fact, out of curiosity I just checked out a return on a different day on the VS041 return, shows it as available then says it is not when trying to book.

Thanks all.

I get the same thing with a dummy booking for that flight.

This is the first season the VS042 is operating so I don't know if that is the reason for the problems.

It operates on Mon/Wed/Fri so there should be a second SFO service that day.

Your post is somewhat confusing. First you say your wife is booked on VS 42 from SFO to LHR on June 22 and you want to book a flight on that date as well. As far as I can see, that flight is available.

Then at the end you say you are trying to book VS 41 for the return a few days later but VS 41 is a westbound flight from LHR to SFO.

If you can clarify what flights you are looking for, perhaps someone can help.

Hi.
The flight appears to be available, but when you choose it, it says it is unavailable.
I tried the VS041 flight just as a random check to see of all of the VS04* had a problem, which this one did as well.

Just tried EF and the VS web site for availability on the VS42 on June 22, both are showing the flight.

Perhaps try again or did you typo your date?

However, one possible reason is that because of light loads VS has determined to combine the flights on that day, and while it shows as available you cannot actually book it. Have you tried logging on to VS to check your wife's booking using MMB? What does it say? If you haven't given VS any contact details maybe they have moved her to the VS020 but you just don't know?

Just logged in to my wifes booking on the Virgin page and it is showing as her being booked on the VS042 @ 18:50 from SFO on 22 June.
When I try to book this again this morning, it still give the option and the price for that flight, but when I actually select it to proceed it says 'this flight is no longer available', and gives the option of the earlier flight that day at a higher price.

I see what you mean -- odd (and seems to be the case for all classes). I would call VS again and see if you can speak to a more knowledgable agent who can explain what is going on.
