California - Dennis the Menace Park Monterey

We would like to see the park during our visit to Monterey which is in about a week time :) We have 3 kids and we think they will love it.

Is the park open? I saw on their page saying that Tuesdays closed from September to May. I'd like to make sure that the park is open before telling the kids about it.

Does anyone know about parking around the park? Are there any free parking?

Also, it's part of a municipal park and there is a fair amount of street parking around the park (may be time limited, however). The few times I've gone to that park, I've managed to find street parking.

I don't remember paying around the park area but that was some years back, the city could have gotten more desperate for cash in the meantime.

Thanks in advance!I loved playing on the great big train engine when I was a kid, and my son loves that park, too. Do call ahead to check if the playground is open, but I've never seen it closed. The boat concession isn't always open even when the playground is, tho, and some of the sports fields may close.

Parking: there are off-street spaces right at the gate to the play area, but sometimes they do fill up.

Thanks!Downtown and around the wharf, definitely not. They're not quite a bad as Carmel with the parking tickets, but they definitely do give them out.
