Hi, I am thinking of staying overnight at the Novotel Citygate in HKG (right near airport), before a trade show at AsiaworldExpo the next, and then flying out to AKL at 6pm.

I know I can check in a day before at Airport Express stations, but dont feel like going all the way to Kowloon, or even Tsing Yi just to do this. What time do the counters open at HKG for NZ?

Plan is to checkout at 9:30 go to airport, check in, head over to the show at 10am, make my way back to airport at 2pm, hit the lounge for shower, and then do some last minute shopping before boarding at 5:30. Possible?

Lastly what lounge does NZ use for J?

thx

Unfortunately I doubt it. The NZ counters in my experience tend to open 2.5 hours before the LHR departure, then close again. I would be surprised if the counters opened for the AKL departure before 3pm.

The United Club.

Not a huge fan of United lounge at Hong Kong, will give the Thai or Singapore *G lounges a try :)

As an aside, that hotel is also the one NZ crew stay in.

I do this route on a regular basis, my last flight NZ80 due to depart at 8.30pm and the first that day for Air NZ, checkin did not open till 5pm, other times on a 6.30 flight the earliest counter has been 3.30pm, they are always in aisle G, so I think it would be quicker and easier to take the train and check your bags in at Kowloon, its not that long, you can not check them in at Ysing Yi

As far as the lounges in HK, as a Gold member I have tried them all, I personally like the United lounge :)

Have not tried the SQ since they renovated, so maybe next time, am used to the layout at United and I like the various seating areas, including the hidden ones :) the food is always good for me too, probably habit but also it is nice and close to the gates for NZ (usually) :)

SQ lounge is near Gate 15 and poorly signposted.

I agree the SQ lounge is probably the nicest *A lounge (at least for *G/Business access - can't speak to the F lounges) at HKG, but the downside to it is that it's dark and there's no bathrooms inside, or showers.

The Star lounge situation is very average IMO.

I like the brightness/airiness of the TG lounge and the availability of power outlets, but it gets very hot and and there's only one shower per gender. The food varies between average and good.

The UA lounge has more showers but they're less clean, and the food varies wildly -- and part of the lounge has an incredibly annoying high frequency noise that I can hear (but I suspect many others can't).

The QF and CX lounges in HKG on the other hand, I quite like.

The SQ lounge was a nice surprise last time I was there considering how average other SQ lounges are especially the food. The downside is probably the distance one has to walk as NZ usually parks at the other end of the terminal.
