Will be flying CPT - AMS next week in biz class, 11:30 pm departure, & was just wondering what to expect regarding the meal service. Does anyone know if they serve a full dinner after departure, or is it just a snack?

Thanks for any info.

You'll have two meals, a dinner about an hour/an hour and a half after takeoff and a breakfast a couple of hours before landing. Pretty much the standard deal for long-haul flights... I don't know the exact menu, maybe someone that has been on this route recently can give you more details.

Thanks, 31dany, I appreciate the info. On midnight departures from the U.S. to Asia (e.g, on KE) they often only serve a light snack, and then a full breakfast later into the flight. So I was just wondering what to expect.

There should be a full dinner option (although the dessert will be served on the same tray as your main course), but also a light/quick meal alternative.

Personally, I do not eat dinner after midnight, or even late evening. Sleeping on a plane is difficult enough, especially on KL's Slippery SlopeŽ seats. A full stomach doesn't make it any easier. Rather have a proper meal before departure, there is no shortage of restaurants in Cape Town that serve excellent fare at very reasonable prices.

I recently flew JNB-AMS on KL in Business Class, and the flight leaves around the same time and is of approximately the same length.

A full dinner was offered, however there were only two choices if I remember correctly, and it seemed to be an expedited service. A full breakfast was still offered, of course (I think it was a choice between an omelette or pancakes).

Agree that you can find plenty of great options in the city before heading to the airport.

Effectice march 25th/summerschedule a new concept is offered on flights departing after 21h30;
Either a Express drinkservice is offered( 2 sandwiches with a drink), or a more substantial 2 cours meal ( 2 choices), including salad, cheese and extra dessert served later seperately.
Also hottowels and waterbottles will now served before all other items. This service is appilicable for all nightflights over 8 hours, and late departing JFK/YYZ
On short nightflights eg ex Middle East no changes in serviceconcept.
Breakfast a la carte will be offered as before on flights over 8 hours

Took this flight last night and was very surprised by the number of people (almost everyone) that wanted to eat dinner in the air at 01.30 in the morning. What is the point of doing that exactly? And don't eat the airport, CPT is not exactly a food mecca.

Only one choice for breakfast in economy, which was good with a lot of fruits.

I suspect you are right, though. "I've paid for the ticket, so I must get my money's worth" seems to be a surprisingly common attitude. Especially if, dare I say it, the pax are Dutch.

And don't eat the airport, CPT is not exactly a food mecca. For sure. No reason to go to the airport early. Have a leisurely dinner in town, and plan to get to CPT 1˝ before the flight, or 1 hour if you've OLCI'd.

Indeed its included and many dutch pax so they will take it! (after all there must be something to complain about...)

There are 2 hotmeals on this flight, one is a choice i guess it was during supper iso breakfast. A good choice as it seems as you are indicating that almost all passengers took the meal!!
