TalkBoard Topics - Flyertalk Chat: Any role for TB to play in getting it resolved?

Dear Talkboard,

As you may know, the Flyertalk chat app has truly not worked for years... a long thread in Technical Issues on this subject.

I always found the Flyertalk chat area a great place to build relationships (especially late east coast time) and actually used it to get feedback when I was a Talkboard member. My proudest FT time was during the 9/11 events when I lived in FT chat... and got much of the news of what was happening in the world there before it was on the cable networks. It was a time of true community.

Now, the chat is just a laughingstock... guessing most do not even know it existed.

Any chance the TB wants to get engaged with IB on this issue? Seems like a perfect place to improve the member experience.

Thanks for reading,

William

FWIW, SkiAdcock seems engaged in the thread & IB says "they're working on it" - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/technical-issues/966404-problems-chat-8.html

As this is a cost-based fuction, I'm not sure how much influence TB will have.

If the members have engaged directy with IB reps (and they have), then I'm not sure how much more influence we can provide. I know SanDiego1k reads this forum and is now more aware of the issue - maybe she can push directly.

My postings were as a regular FT member & expresss my frustration w/ chat not working. I was particularly cranky/honest in my opinion in post #117. ;).

It occurred to me after I posted that perhaps TB could express its opinion to IB, and ask them to move along since we do represent FTers, it is a forum with difficulties (to the point that some FTers have created a mini-chat elsewhere where they can communicate in a chat format, which is totally ludicrous that they have to do so), and we want things to work/keep people on FT, so the timing of wharvey posting the same thing the next morning is the great minds think alike mode.

I don't see fixing a FT function that used to work as a cost-based function (rewriting all of the VBulletin software to be more social media would be a large cost-based function), as much as correcting an issue like any good service provider should do.

Speaking for myself, I've got no problem with TB asking IB to take a more pro-active approach to getting this fixed. If IB is not willing to do so, then I would suggest that TB consider voting on eliminating the forum.

Cheers.

Thanks for the comments Sharon... I had not viewed your comments as a TB member... just as a concerned chat user.

I honestly do think this is an issue for TB... this is about community.

I have made many friends through chat over the years... but now do not even try to visit... it is too frustrating.

I do agree.. either fix it or get rid of it... it is an eyesore in its current state.

I tried registering for Chat and it didn't work.. I thought it was always due to my inept ability to understand technology.:D

Seriously, if the Chat doesn't work, why keep it around?

Check post #122 onwards in Technical Forums thread. Explains what they're doing & the 'unique' (and it is) issue re: FT. They are working on it.

Cheers.

Supposedly still working on it. Something about a new platform. Saw this in technical issues forum.
