Hyatt Gold Passport - Holding a Points Award (without points)

Hi team,

Here's my dilemma.

I want to do a nice thing for a couple of friends (book them a 'gift' night at Andaz 5th Ave). So I wanted to know if I can open a Hyatt Gold Passport account in the friend's name - make and hold the award reservation - and transfer the points into his account before the check-in date.

Why can't I transfer the points now? Because I don't have (much) left in my Ultimate Rewards account until my next statement closing date!

Now I know Marriott allows holding awards (before the points are earned) ... but does Hyatt? I will appreciate any help in making my gift a success!

You can do an award for your friend using points in your own account - you need to call to set up the reservation in their name though - can't be done online.

AFAIK, your strategy of booking an award before points are in the account is no longer possible - certainly not for a brand new account - for a Diamond account it could be possible if the number of points that is short is low (not even sure if its possible then).

If you have Diamond status, you can call in and they will put a reservation on hold for you (from your account). Just have them set the reservation up in your friends name

Thank you peteropny & martyYYZ for your helpful responses.

Booking through my own HGP account isn't an option as I'm not a big Hyatt person (Marriott or SPG) soo I don't have (much) Hyatt points. I'm waiting on about 85k UR points from this month :D , so looks like I'll have to wait n' see when my UR points kick in on Apr 1 (statement closing) and see if the room is still available (hopefully!)
