Not sure if anyone else has posted on this yet, but there seems to be a new promo starting today then running through most of the year. Differs from property to property and it's not clear yet which properties are participating, but the promos I've seen so far have been buy 2 nights get 1 night free or buy 3 nights get 1 free. And on top of that, free breakfast each day, and possibly a 2pm checkout (didn't see that for all properties).

Promo Code is "FRTIME"

Looks like participating properties will be posted here (but nothing is there yet):
http://www.Hyatt.com/freetime

Here are the offer terms for Huntington Beach in case anyone is interested:

Offer valid at participating resorts in the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean. Stays must be booked between March 20, 2012 and November 30, 2012 and completed between March 20, 2012 and December 30, 2012. Guest must book and stay at least two (2), three (3), or four (4) paid nights (offer varies by property) to receive one (1) additional free night. Please contact a property or visit Hyatt.com to determine which offer is available at a specific property. Offer also includes free breakfast each morning at participating hotel restaurants for up to two (2) people. Not valid for room service. See general terms below for additional details.

Advance reservations requesting offer code FRTIME required. Offer varies by property. Contact each property Hyatt.com/freetime for specific terms. For a list of resorts, visit hyattresorts.com. Not valid at Hyatt Place or Hyatt House locations. Specific restrictions may apply at various hotels. Contact each hotel for specific terms and conditions. Booking window begins at 12:00 a. m. CDT on March 20, 2012 and ends at 11:59 p.m. CST on November 30, 2012. The additional free night must be used on the same stay. Limit one (1) free night per stay. Two or more consecutive nights at same hotel are considered a stay regardless of whether guest checks out. Offer subject to availability. A limited number of rooms are allocated to this offer. No refunds or credit will be issued for unused portions. Offer not valid for groups or convention, award stays, travel agent rates, Hyatt employee rates or stays booked through third parties and may not be combined with other promotions. Additional charges may apply for additional guests or room type upgrades. Blackout periods may apply due to seasonal periods or special events, and normal arrival/departure restrictions apply. So... If/when it does work, can anyone report instances when the resulting average room night price is advantageous vs. booking an affinity group rate (such as AAA, AARP, Senior, other promo) outside of the promo? The more common fourth- or fifth-night-free promos usually aren't, in my observation.

It is nice that this one has such a long timespan, across several market periods.

I looked at an existing 2-night reservation I have where I'm paying $116/night with AAA. The FRTIME rate was $169 a night.

Word. Hyatt is the champion at giving you a dollar with one hand, while taking two from you with the other, and telling you with a straight face what a great deal you're getting. Caveat Emptor to the max.

 "giving a dollar while taking two" oh drama! Nobody is taking anything - you dont like a promo - dont book it. You can still book aaa if you prefer.

BTW most people do not have aaa which costs money ($60 iirc) plus this promo appears to include breakfast which may or may not be available on aaa rate.

Most CASUAL travelers don't know enough to check "special" rates like we do, and make choices that are as informed as ours are. I am sure that many spend more than they have to for that reason.

And if I have to spend $60 on a AAA membership to save $300 on a stay, that's a no-brainer. At that point, it's not an expense, it's an investment with immediate return.

I can't get this offer to work. Grand Hyatt Seattle lists it in their special offers (stay 2, get the third free), but I can't find any set of three nights for which I don't get the message "The special offer/rate you have requested is unavailable during the dates selected, or it is not offered at this property. Below is a list of rates available during your requested dates."

I thought at first maybe it was just the particular weekend I want to stay, but I tried a whole bunch of random dates months in advance, and none worked. So... technical glitch? Grand Hyatt Seattle isn't really participating, even though it's on their website? I dunno.

Honestly, as Hyatt "promo" rates go, this one is pretty decent. It always appears to be $20 a night more than the HDR and gives free breakfast and 1 free night, so for non diamonds it is actually a great deal, and for diamonds it is still better usually. I mean, I just booked a 3 night stay where the costco/aaa rates were about 135 a night, but the HDR was 149 and this rate was 169. Basically, for $340 for 3 nights I got free breakfast and it is still cancellable, as opposed to $400 for 3 nights with the costco/aaa which don't include breakfast.

 Lets compare apples to apples.

116 x THREE nights = 348
169 x THREE nights - ONE night = 338 + free breakfast.

I have never regretted having a AAA card. It seems to save me $5-$15 per stay. Plus I get roadside assistance. I find it funny that folks complain about $60-$75 annual fees for AAA or credit cards. It's peanuts in the big picture.

I guess I could say I have the card and risk being asked. Many of my Hyatt reservations ask for a AAA number to be filled in to process.

AAA membership does pay for itself, and then some, with all the discounts that are offered. For people who don't have a corporate rate, it's the next best thing. Hyatt, Hilton, Starwood, Marriott, etc. all have AAA rates. You also get discounts on food, shopping, theme parks, etc.

Just replying to myself here. This does seem to be working now, more or less. Now when you search it just gives you a normal rate which appears to be a uniform $20 more than the regular "Hyatt Daily Rate," along with a message that says "One free night will be deducted at check out. Minimum length of stay required."

The funny thing is Grand Hyatt Seattle is not listed on the offer's list of participating hotels, but seems to be bookable. By contrast, Olive 8 is on the list of participating hotels and I can't find any dates for which the offer is valid.

+1. As companies are looking for any possible way to attract/retain customers, discounts on both of these are increasing in number, AND in the amount of the discount offered.

Both will pay for themselves in no time at all if one pays attention...

I am at the GH Seattle this very moment using this promo.

Third night free and breakfast for two all three mornings. Not bad for $40 overall ($20 per night over reg rate for both paid nights) ^

Thanks for the reply. My concern was that a suite upgrade says it can only be applied to paid nights - where the promotion gives the 3rd night free.

Also seems to be available as of yesterday for at least some properties outside the US - minus the breakfast, but for the property I was checking the rate was the same as HDR, with stay three, pay two, so a nice 33% discount ^

Thanks Hyatt. Shame that I can't actually book the stay as the website has crashed yet again! :td:

My guess is that you can't use the Free Time promotion with a corporate code because Free Time requires the use of a code as well. You get all the Free Time benefits through the code, which includes a specific rate.

Since this offer is from Hyatt, it is eligible for status and points. However, you won't receive credit for the third/free night.

Actually the FreeTime rate shows up automatically. No need of a code. I just booked 3 nights at the GH Taipei.

Grateful if a lurker could confirm the status eligiblity of the free night. If I book for 3 nights, and one is free as part of the promo, surely this would still count as 1 stay / 3 nights towards elite requalification ?

RTW1
Jun 4, 12, 7:07 am
Nope... Just had a 5 night stay were the 4th night was "free" and only 1 stay / 4 nights was posted. A really cheap way to handle such a promotion, but the T&C's support it.....

Makes it a little harder to qualify for Diamond if you have a few of these offers. I used points for a few nights recently and have another reservation where the Free Time offer could be used. So I could end up with 5-10 nights that don't count this year.

banzani
Jun 4, 12, 7:35 am
thanks for the quick feedback. That's a bummer, really. SPG has even award nights count nowadays, and here in this case it really is part of a paid reservation...indeed does not make it easier to requalify.

RTW1
Jun 4, 12, 11:27 am
Exactly my sentiment.... I really see it as a discount on a paid stay rather than a free night.

And since it would only count for requalification, and not some spectacular bonus promotion, it's a really lame way to handle things.

my question is whether I need to sandwich a one night stay BETWEEN the two 3 day stays or can I just make 2 reservations -- check out and check back in and, in effect, get 2 nights out of 6 free (the rate for Hyatt Hamburg is 220 ai -- so that would be 6 nights for 880 euros ai)

RTW1
Jun 14, 12, 10:37 am
Just book the 2 reservations for 6 continous nights, no need to split them up with one night inbetween. You will only get one stay credit for four nights.

And the hotel will know that you will stay for 6 nights so no need to checkout. They could move you to another room, but in reality that never happens....

The T&C seem to prohibit this:

The additional free night must be used on the same stay. Limit one (1) free night per stay. Two or more consecutive nights at same hotel are considered a stay regardless of whether guest checks out.

No idea what happens in practice.

Anyone know if you have to pay the full taxes and service fees on the "free" night?

I noticed this, too. Technically, two 3-night stays would count as one "stay" for the purpose of GP stay crediting, and the T&C limit to one free night per "stay." But the hotel might calculate the free night credit on a per-reservation basis rather than on a per-"stay" basis. There's no way to know without asking (or seeing what happens).

Anyone know if you have to pay the full taxes and service fees on the "free" night?

IME, hotels generally charge taxes & service charges on all nights, including free ones. But these are usually a percentage of the room rate charged the customer, which for free/award nights is $0. I have been asked to pay a city tax on a "free" night that was a flat fee, however, so YMMV.

Do note that the tax for the 3rd/4th night also gets deducted at checkout because Hyatt don't charge tax on 'free nights'. Therefore, the FRTIME rate might still be cheaper although not by much.

However, it is daylight robbery in my opinion. Hyatt New Orleans - 205/ night hyatt daily rate, put the code in and the rate goes to 259/ night . I'm always shocked how hotels are allowed to advertise these sort of promos and call it a FREE third/ 4th night etc. when in fact one only saves a few $$ at most because the rates go up with the code.

I agree that it's misleading, but it's worth noting that the FRTIME rate does include daily breakfast, which the regular rate does not. (Although I'm not sure what kind of breakfast that new Hyatt in NO might offer; I've heard they don't have much of a restaurant yet.)
