Heading for a 2 night trip back to Germany after a 10 years gap.
April 10

I have never visited Hamburg and I wonder if anyone can suggest what I might expect, recommendations for places to visit, and anywhere good to eat at the quality end.

My recommendation for lunch or dinner is the:

http://www.krameramtsstuben.de/

Its a good restaurant in an historic part of Hamburg. The famous church “St. Michels” next to it.

I am taking a day trip from Munich to see Miniatur Wonderland (http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/). Their 2012 YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ACkmg3Y64_s)looks amazing, I can't wait to see the airport. :D

if you're in my hometown for only two nights I would definitevily recommend to visit the Miniatur-Wunderland and the http://www.internationales-maritimes-museum.de/en/.

If the weather is fine, I would do a harbour-cruise.

For the restaurant question it pretty much depends on your preferences, e.g. meat or fish, italian or german or dozens other cuisines. There are a few restaurants with harbour-view, which are quite nice.

And if you like it, you can visit one of the worlds most famous red-light districts (Reeperbahn) in the evening. But "red-light"s are really disappearing and it has developped as a place for music and entertainment for the young generation.

Miniatur Wunderland had it's 10 millionth visitor over the holidays. Can't wait to see it this summer! It’s very busy in the summer. Check out the website regarding wait-time before you go. It’s not uncommon to wait in line for 2.5 hours before you can get in.

If you do a reservation on their website, you skip a few lines and it goes much faster.

But yes, definitely go there when you are in Hamburg.

Thanks. Yes, I definitely plan to buy my ticket in advance. I see they are open to 23:00 as well so maybe going in the evening is sensible?
