Will be going to FS LG Maldives in a couple of weeks for 9 days. Understand they have local SIM cards I can buy at the resort. Does anyone know if the reception is good and call charges are decent?
We wanted to bring some wine with us but one of our friends said they now scan all incoming luggage and will not allow us to bring any alcohol into the country. Anyone had experience with that?
Since we have quite a few people, we've chartered our own private plane to the resort. Any tips on the transfer from Male to seaplane?

Just forget about bringing alcohol! They will find it. We did not have any wine with us, but a small bottle of vodka or something that my husband hat put in between his toiletries. I did not know about it, said no when they asked if we had brought anything and was very emberrassed when they found it.
100% do not bring alcohol inbound to MLE...

Recently there is a kind of special "sensibility" towards all non islamic behaviour, especially in Male; I would not reccomend to take any alchool.
About going to the seaplane: I think (but i might be wrong) you should ask to FS representatives to meet you and help with any operation at the airport (I assume it will depart from the same area where all the seaplane are located). In case of any delay you should be entitled to use their Lounge at the airport.

As long as I have been going to the Maldives (since early 90s), they have always confiscated alcohol. This is nothing new. They used to give it back when you left the country. Not aware that this has changed. They will also confiscate any religious idols in your luggage (Hindu, Christian crosses, bibles, whatever) and they are much more strict about it these days. They will give them back when you leave, though.
Sea planes are at a different site from incoming International flights. FS will meet post immigration/customs and transfer to their lounge. Easy and quick.

Previously under the Maldives Customs law, the passengers carrying alcohol and produces of pig items on arrival were allowed to store them in the Airport Customs bond and collected it back during their departure flight. However, with the increase of daily flights arriving to the Maldives, Customs Authority has found it impossible to accommodate the storage facilities for the ever-increasing passengers.
makes sense

Hello
It has always been illegal to bring alcohol into the Maldives. Customs will now confiscate it - but no longer return it when you depart.
As you exit Arrivals you will be met by the Four Seasons staff - they will then walk you to the seaplane check in counter (about 45 seconds). Next you will be transported around the end of the runway and up the other side to the Seaplane Terminal (6 minutes) for a touch of luxury while your plane is readied.
Mobile reception is now pretty good on all resort islands - but I would suggest purchasing your SIM at the airport for a better deal.
Have a great trip - maybe I will see you there !?

Don't try to take your own alcohol. It will be confiscated. Even in the days when they didn't confiscate it and said they would return it there were many people that never had theirs returned when they departed the country.
We went to the other FS resort first so can't comment on how the transfer you from airpor to seaplane.
Have a fabulous time! I am counting down the days our son turns 2 so that he can have the typhoid vaccination so that we can return to FS LG!

We took our son to the FSLG at 9 months and he survived. Probably built up some immunity because we took our 2nd trimester babymoon there as well.:D

You don't need ANY vaccinations to go to the Maldives!! Especially if you are staying at Four Seasons! Frankly, even if you were staying at a 3-star, this would be excessive.

Our pediatrician was more concerned we were transiting in Singapore (potential exposure to TB from Indonesians visiting or something like that) than going to Maldives.

I'm sure it will be fine, but I it's our first child and I can't help but be overly cautious!
We had our first trimester babymoon there paullevi! It was fantastic and they were very accommodating to my food requests!

Has your pediatrician ever been to Singapore? TB from Indonesians? Are you kidding?
