My young 'car enthusiast' cousin bought a front bumper for his Subaru up here in AKL, without checking before hand how much it would cost to freight to the bottom of the south island [insert face palm pic here]. Needless to say its cheaper to fly down, than send it as freight.

My question is, if it is packaged up, could I check it in? It's a jet flight to ZQN via CHC so the limits are a bit more generous and once packaged would be no different to the size of a snowboard bag which frequents the route and smaller than a surf board. The NZ site is a bit vague and from my understanding as long as its not dangerous, it should be ok?

Have others checked in odd oversized things before?

I've checked in various odd shaped boxes and containers before and as long as it's well packaged and not dangerous, it shouldn't be a problem.

Odd shaped items do require you to sign the damage indemnity slip and are carried at your risk

I think NZ has a maximum length (for jet flights) of 2.5 m...

Shorter (1.8?) for other a/c...

How long is a bumper? :D
