Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - Access to Revivals Lounge on code share

Hi all, I booked a VS return LHR - CPT in Y, with the return leg a code share serviced by SAA.

I looked at the rules for Revivals and it states that as long as the flight number is prefixed VS then I should get access with my Gold Card. However, I was refused and told by the lady at the Revivals Lounge that only Virgin flights flown in actual Virgin planes get access.

Looking at my booking reciept the flight was a VS prefix - VS8220, and the main part of the ticket that the ground staff at CPT kept had printed on it 'sold as VS8820' - however the stub only had SA220 on it.

Should I have been granted access, or is it simply that VS's rules are unclear?

Any help warmly received.

Looking at V-Flyers explanation of Virgin Fare Codes (http://v-flyer.com/the-toolbox/fare-codes)

If so you wouldn't be eligible anyway for Revivals Lounge. I think only Virgin Gold members and those flying in Upper Class are able to use the lounges. Are you a Virgin Atlantic Gold Member, you said you have a gold card but your profile says "*A DC Gold", I have no clue what that is.. :)

Anyone else have an opinion?

Steve

Revivals access is a gold benefit but only for VS operated flights.

On the VS website it says that you can get access for flights with a VS prefix but only VS operated ones. I don't know why they bother to mention the VS prefix thing.

I find this bizarre. You've bought your ticket through Virgin, you've paid Virgin, the flight is a VSxxxx flight, and you, a Gold Card member, don't get the Virgin perks? How much would it cost VS to lose that penny-pinching rule, and how much would it gain them in customer satisfaction and loyalty?

Makes no difference where the ticket was bought from. OP doesn't even say they bought their ticket from VS only that they booked a VS return.

The VS8820 is NOT a VS operated flight it is an SAA flight on SAA metal and it even says that in the VS booking engine.

There is an '*' on the FC gold page on the VS website re Revivals

*Virgin Atlantic operated flights only (not including codeshare flights).

So the staff at revivals were correct and the OP wasn't entitled to use it.

If you have a DC gold card and arrive on SAA you can use the arrivals lounge in T1 (I think)

I have a VS Gold Card and BMI Diamond CLub Gold.

It seems incredibly stingy of Virgin not to allow me in, when I bought the ticket on their website - and had a VS prefix......anyhow I have put a complaint in. Let's see what happens.

Dear Mr Bariummeal

Thank you for taking the time to email us about your recent flight arriving into Heathrow.

I was concerned to hear that you were unable to make use of the Revivals lounge after your South African Airways flight. As you have quite rightly mentioned, Flying Club Gold holders travelling on flights with a ‘VS’ prefix, regardless of class of travel, are permitted to use the Revivals lounge. I am so sorry that you were declined access. I have taken this up with the manager there to ensure that we get things right in the future.

I realise that nothing can change what happened. However by way of a further apology and as a gesture of goodwill I have credited your Flying Club account with 8000 miles. Your updated statement may be viewed online at www.virgin-atlantic.com

Once again I am so sorry that we let you down. I hope that the next time you fly with us you will have a better experience.

Kind regards

Customer Liaison Manager, Customer Relations
Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd.

Seems like a good result. ^

They ought to update their website if that's the case.

Its worth a try. I've done that route many times before and you get there sweaty and gross, that shower is like a dream.

Neither a lounge pass nor 8000 miles cost them anything.

Steve
