Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles - Paid Gate Upgrade Possibilities to "C" on IST-JFK-IST?

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with paid gate upgrades from Comfort (A Class) to business?

Is there any sort of Star upgrade than can be applied -- I'm a UA 1K - Star Gold status.

Yes much like most airlines they will be very happy to upgrade you if you pay the difference in price between your fare and Biz.

Also, how easy/difficult is it to get confirmed/reserved/guaranteed upgrade (not capacity controlled) to C from Comfort? If I -

1. Go to TK's ticketing office in NY, HK, or Istanbul.
2. Have enough miles.
3. There're class J seats available by checking online. (This is the upgraded class using miles)

No need to be a smarty-pants. By "gate upgrade" obviously I meant a o/w supplement charge offered at the gate on a space-available basis for C seats remaining open at boarding...

Would be nice -- but as a UA elite, I have only UA/Star miles. Thus I suspect it would be limited to a cash upgrade at the Gate on space-available basis open seats... Does Turkish offer anything like that to fill seats?

Well, at your prompting I looked into the situation at UA. Just like UA members, TK members may indeed purchase o/w int'l upgrades at the for cash, typically $600 or so when UA offers them - which is not always. I knew about the upgrade offer at UA, and that Austrian sometimes offers me the same. My thought was that perhaps TK had some sort of similar program -- that's all.

Cash Upgrades with TK are not possible at the Gate or on board.

Cash upgrade is available at check in counter from economy to premium economy

So, just to confirm, you can upgrade from economy to Comfort at the gate, if it's available and if they offer it, but you can't upgrade from Comfort to Business?

If you ask for a paid upgrade to J they will type a lot and quote you the fare difference from the market where you bought your ticket. Considering the quality of TK's J-Cabin I consider it the right thing to do.

Maybe from IST but it's possible from other cities

So, just to confirm, you can upgrade from economy to Comfort at the gate, if it's available and if they offer it, but you can't upgrade from Comfort to Business?

Last minute upgrades at checkin are a perk for TK members who can upgrade for points. So this is offered in conjunction with that. TK homepage seems to suggest that TK members can upgrade as long as ANY seat is available. Does anyone know which fare classes that must have availability for this to be offered?

Why?? They have based most of their inter national pricing, including flights from Turkey on Euros for about seven years now.
