So basically, i am redeeming 15000 miles from CMB DEL which would cost me around 600 INR.

If i booked my return ticket all cash, i would end up paying only around 3500 more.

Is it worth spending 15000 miles to save 3500? I am not sure since i am doing it for the first time?

Not to mention i won't get sector point or miles for that award flight.

Also, is it better to get premiere for 30k miles than economy for 15k? This is a 3 and half hour flight?

Thanks in advance

If i understand you correctly you are paying for a 1 way ticket from Delhi to Colombo and redeeming the miles for the return leg. Paying 15000 miles to save Rs 3500 gives you a value of 23paise per mile which is quite low. Typically for a return economy ticket i use a ballpark figure of 50 paise / mile to decide whether i redeem or buy the ticket.

Premiere gives you more value per mile that you spend, typically Rs 1 - 1.5 per mile is decent value while redeeming miles for a business flight.

To answer your question i would not receommdn redeeming 15000 miles to save Rs 3500. Redeeming 30000 for premiere might be a better bet but i would rather save up on the miles and redeem on a partner business long-haul route.

Btw it is interesting that the tax (+YQ) for a Delhi - Colombo return award is Rs 5681 in Y while a OW reward from Colombo to Delhi has a tax of Rs 600 (LKR 1500). Raises the question why the YQ is not charged for tickets originating in SL.

Interestingly if one were to redeem Delhi - Colombo then the tax + YQ comes to Rs 3390.

So redeeming 2 OW rewards in economy will cost you Rs 4000 in tax while a return ticket would be almost 5900 in tax. This is really weird or am i not seeing this right?

Jet's whole redemption strategy (if you can call it that) especially in J/F is beyond bizarre.

This is from a few months ago, for BOM-HKG in Y:
** Using Jet points to fly Jet: 20,000 points plus Rs 8,000
** Using Jet points to fly Cathay: 25,000 points plus Rs 773

For the same route in J:
** Using Jet points to fly Jet: Not possible, but would have been 40,000 points plus Rs 11,000-ish
** Using Jet points to fly Cathay: 50,000 points plus Rs 893

In sum, where a partner exists, try and use your Jet points to redeem on them. It just might be a better experience for far less money. You need to be certain of your dates though, because those can't typically be changed.

Any use of Jets miles where you actually save some cash even 1 rupee is a great return due to the uselessness of the miles. If you can grab a seat, don't look back!

as far as domestic redemption is concerned, i usually find what i am looking for....international is impossible, so i just use partner airlines....beside the fact that the reservations don't allow any changes, everything else works like a charm....
