Will go to Indianapolis for the FDIC show.
First time to be there, will drive there from New York.
Any suggestions on hotel(around $100per night double room), tourism, more interested in local things and views, and also food.
Thanks in advance.
PS. it's my first trip to USA.:p

Are you driving from New York City? If so, spend as much time there as you can. Indianapolis is a 2nd tier city and seeing as you are attending the FDIC show, let that be your time spent in Indianapolis, spend more time in New York City.

Most of the land around Indianapolis is flat to slightly sloping, not exactly exciting. So if looking for outdoor experiences, perhaps do some hiking in the Finger Lakes region of western New York. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Lakes_Trail

The most interesting thing to see in Indy is the race track -- and you can take a tour that includes one lap around the trap.

Next most interesting thing is monument circle.

Next would be just driving around neighborhoods in a typical US (ok midwest) city.

There are lots of interesting things to see between NYC and Indy and you could spend months seeing them.

What are your interests? And are you bringing family?
(The Children's Museum is very good indeed. http://www.childrensmuseum.org/)
There is the canal area, right off center city, which takes one by or near the zoo, gardens, and some museums:

Do you enjoy gardens? Despite the warm weather, April might be a bit early for all but the tulips and daffodils, but you could instead check out the tropical conservatory at Garfield Park. http://garfieldgardensconservatory.org/
The Indianapolis Museum of Art is situated in some lovely gardens, as well.

Obviously, you have access in NYC to phenomenal museums, but if you are in Indy and looking for something to do on a lovely spring afternoon, you might wish to check them out.
Connor Prairie is a an interactive history settlement quite close to Indy: http://www.connerprairie.org/
You can take a ride on an old steam train:
http://www.whitewatervalleyrr.org/excursions/
(This is quite a bit east of Indy.)
The train goes to Metamora, where you can take a ride on a canal boat, if it is running that early. Though I should mention also the canal interpretive center about an hour or so north and west of Indy: http://wabashanderiecanal.org/Boat_Tours.html
(I have friends who have been working hard on this center, and it really is very nice, if you happen to be in area at any point.)
It is also quite close to the Wolf Park, if you happen to be interested in wildlife conservation: http://www.wolfpark.org/admission.shtml

For interesting architecture in a small midwest town, see Columbus Indiana
http://www.architecturecolumbus.org/, which is just about an hour south of Indy. Buildings by Gunnar Birkerts, Eliel Saarinen, Harry Mohr Weese, etc.

And don't forget to stop by Dublin, Ohio on your way west and see the field of giant concrete corn ears: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/9527

And so on....I don't live in Indy, but I have taken friends from NYC and Bay area to do most of these activities at their request, and they enjoyed them. Of course, they all had kids.
