India-based Airlines - Need 6 Sector points on 9W for Silver status, will Jet make this exception?

I need 6 more sector points to reach Silver on (20 in year) and have a trip coming from DEL CMB 23 & 26th but i need to have 20 sector points by 25th march 2012 (i am assuming this since i took the first flight on 25th mar 2011).

So if i fly premiere from DEL CMB on 23rd and Return on 26th, will Jet still upgrade my status to Silver or is it a strict policy and one day will still give me only 16 in 12 months?

It's an automated system that handles tier upgrades so it's unlikely you will get an automatic upgrade.

You could call Jet and try but given how stingy they've been acting off late, it's highly unlikely you'll get the upgrade.

i agree on both counts....

Called jet and they basically told me to F off right on my face. Can't really do much about it but will ride coach now since the reason for premiere was to get tier upgrade.

Anyways, hope they change sometimes in future. I still can't believe Indian hospitality industry sometimes can be so annoying compared to western world.

I was missing a flight or two last year for re-qualifying as Plat. I wrote to them about it (stating that I would complete the required number in a week's time).

Surprise, Surprise. They actually considered it. So, I don't think it's automated (or if it is, that it does not have a manual override). Maybe it's for Plat upgrade only since the number of Plats may be more manageable than Silver.

and now I am in a similar situation.. I need 3 sector points on 9W by 8th June, to hit Silver.. I have been flying Jet for 7 years now and have never hit silver, due to my erratic flying schedules and the fact that I couldn't stick with Jet all the time, due to various reason.. I am taking a flight on 29th May and another on 4th June.. so I will be 1 sector point short..

Not sure if I should I email them and try my luck..???

You can try, after all its luck. But like mohitmadaan, you might not hear anything positive.

As an aside - does any body have an idea what the distribution of JP members is across:

Silver
Gold
Platinum

I'm assuming Blue Plus will be as numerous and as esteemed as chaff

Now, the system (like any good system in place), can be overridden and the trick is to convince them that it would be worth it to them to consider you as an exception to their automated elite tier system.

In your case, it was worth it to Jet to do so, and they complied.

Called jet and they basically told me to F off right on my face. Can't really do much about it but will ride coach now since the reason for premiere was to get tier upgrade.

Anyways, hope they change sometimes in future. I still can't believe Indian hospitality industry sometimes can be so annoying compared to western world.I would not call the dimwits on the phone. (most of them are, but some are exceptions, note)

Write to them and explain how you would be flying in Premiere rather than Y - because in my opinion, they would note that they would be earning extra income from your choice to do so...

I'm assuming Blue Plus will be as numerous and as esteemed as chaffNote that Plats are also quite numerous.

I understand that all the large corporates who guarantee business to Jet for discounts also receive a certain number of Platinum status memberships that they can allocate to their Directors, Managers, etc.

The others flying would generate their own Platinum status in any case.

Also met one of the top online TA owners some years ago, who showed me a card he received from Goyal - giving him something like ultimate status on Jet - I guess we should be striving for to achieve that one instead of the "common" Plat status!

Do tell more. But am assuming that since nobody on this board seems to have it/disclosed it yet, must be impossible to get through flying. Is it forged in the fires of Mount Doom?

Based on business relationship, I would think. (Therefore not based on flying)

This was a long time ago - but I'm sure they still exist - I didn't care too much at the time, as I was actually on a tier-point run at the time (something I don't bother to do any longer), so my recollection of same is a bit foggy...

Out of sheer curiosity, what benefit of Silver status are you trying to avail of? I just ask because I don't remember the low tiers actually having too much of a benefit to make it worthwhile to spend the extra money on a MR just to achieve it.

Then again, if you're looking to have less erratic plans (i.e., more 9W) in the future and fast-track up to Gold or Platinum, I can see the rationale.

Indeed there aren't many reasons for really vying for Silver status.. but I have a personal motive here.. I'm travelling to NYC this summer and would be travelling 9W in most probability.. so an extra 23 kgs of luggage, as a silver customer, would help immensely.. and if this cards gives me decent benefits, I might just layoff my JACC Plat.. No point paying an extra 2500 Rs. every year for the dwindling benefits..

How hard is it to do a MR? Im sure a short hop with a turnaround return should get you guys enough EQMs/EQSs/EQPs to hit the next tier?

+1. You'll recover the MR costs on the extra you save on baggage (if you fly excess a lot, that is).

There's ways to do trips in J that end up getting sector points at ~80USD/point. Not sure what the most efficient way is, though.

If you book far out in advance (and have the time), Jet does have multiple segment itineraries that work out the same as direct flights (or at most 500 INR more). For example, DEL-COK direct (which actually transits via HYD) is 6-7K and you can also do DEL-BOM-COK for around the same. On the former, you get 1 sector point, on the latter 2. Don't cancel however as you pay cancellation charges on the latter for both segments

DEL-KTM roundtrip works out to ~ US$80/point, in J.

Edit : Even better.. MAA-CMB return at $66/point in J.

^ MAA-CMB is a good one. Not much time to enjoy J however - 30 mins or so for the flight?

Last time I did MAA-CMB it did have a full meal service, so that was kind of nice...

Flight time is 80-90 minutes, IIRC.

Really? DEL-CMB is 3 hours, so assumed that it must be around 30-40 mins for MAA-CMB. Its a proper 737 flight, right?

"proper" is emphasizing that it is a mainline aircraft - meaning not a prop or RJ.

It's 9W's specially configured short hop 737. It runs on one engine and sail power, explaining why it takes 90 mins to go around 600km

To update on what finally happened to my status..

I couldn't take that flight and went 2 sector points short for silver.. after another week I went 3 flights short, which I was required to complete by 18th June.. and I needed 4 points by 19th June..

I wrote to JP service centre and explained that I am taking CCU-DEL-BRU-JFK on 19th, which is giving me 3 sector points, still one short. But this is just barely 24 hours short.. I was originally flying on 18th, but had to change.. I also booked return with them.. I had the option to fly other airline, but I flew JET for loyalty.. and so on and so forth..and not to mention, since my wife is also travelling with me, onward and return, that's two passengers worth of revenue and loyalty..

and what do you know - They moved me to Silver..!! so there is a manual work around.. they just consider it on a case to case basis..

there definitely is....not as much as it used to be though....

no cancellation charge, ability to upgrade from any fare class & extra points are still benefits that make plat worth it for me....

IMHO there is but albeit little..
But it does help getting upgrades ( in perennially crowded sectors like CCU- BKK), some meagre additional bonus points and points not expiring..

Btw.. can someone PM me the email id of the CS where to send my request..

To add to Jet's good side balance sheet..

After my Silver status request, they have now moved my wife also to Silver on an exception basis.. She had the same issue as I was having in June.. she was completing the 6 months requirement for miles flown, but she was 2-3 days late in that.. so they considered it and moved her 2 weeks before she has taken her flight.. She would have completed the 12 month requirement in March, but it's nice of them to have moved her now itself.. it did help pointing out to them that I am shelling out an extra 16k over AI's flight on the same route, with one less layover and 5 hours of flying time..

and before you ask- No, we did not spend the extra 16K, and an extra layover and 5 extra hours of flying time just for the silver status.. we had other reasons to do so..the silver status was a by product of our situation.. but it did help pointing it out to them..

And at this rate she will be gold before me :( I have been flying Jet for 7 years.. she has been flying for 7 months.. not fair..!!!
