For EWR seems to need 3 nights so I guess if looking for a VR not an MR that would work.

Some are open for 2 nights, but much rarer.

It's EWR to/from GPT not SFO

Starting at the end of Aug (through EOS) there are 1 nighters available....but your VR vs MR point is still valid....^

Good find -- I'm at the other end, and see fair amount of availability in Aug/Sep/Oct for GPT-IAH-LAX-SFO-LAX-IAH-GPT for $180ai (3.8 cpm) but only with at least one night in sfo. Still playing with other combinations to find a same day turnaround.

Just do a flexible search on ua.com for gpt-sfo (or vv) for at least a one day trip with your calendar starting in July and later. Once you've found a suitable date, do a search for multiple destinations with lax as an intermediate stop.

Don't want to derail this thread too much (more info in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credit-card-programs/1270847-citi-premier-ty-card-companion-ticket.html)), but I paid cash, and if you have a ThankYou Premier card, you can get the discount booking through thankyoucompanion.com (http://www.thankyoucompanion.com) (both the annual companion ticket and unlimited 15% discount tickets can be booked there; however, they have limited inventory for both).

Now if I only knew when SMD4 was going to be (rumored Sep) I could snag one of those fares. Tried Aug and no luck. :(

I was able to book a flight in August. And got 4 friends (5 total) on the same flight! So there is availability - just have to search for it.

Thanks for that info. I tried it again and couldn't get the SFO-LAX add on but got the SFO-GPT for 8/24-25.
