Mods - sorry please merge if there's an thread on this.

I am trying to price out a JFK-NRT-SIN fare for Oct/Nov 2012 in premium economy but I could not get the ANA website to return a fare in premium economy. The website returns Saver, Standard and Flex Eco Value Fares but the seat map for each fare is the same. Being a ANA newbie, I am not sure if premium economy is available for sale on all ANA flights. Can someone kindly confirm? Thank you!

PY is only available on the NRT-ORD, NRT-IAD, NRT-MUC, and HND-LAX routes.

Out of curiosity, why is NH moving away from PE? Carriers like CX, AA and others are introducing the product on their new aircraft.

IIRC, the premium economy seats for the new 77Ws were made by Koito, which ran into safety certification issues, and that caused the new 77Ws with Business Staggered seats to enter service without premium economy seats. So now you can only get premium economy on routes that use the old 773.

For some reason NH never made premium economy a competitive proposition even when they had it on all of their long-hauls. They always priced it at or near the full-fare economy rate, which was way too high (often close to discounted business class rates). NH's premium economy offering is really only useful for a handful of top-tier NH elites and full-fare Y passengers who can't or won't upgrade to C. OTOH, I know quite a few Japanese people who pay for premium economy on other airlines like JL and BA -- on leisure travel, mind you -- because on those airlines it prices out at just a few hundred dollars more than cheap economy.

NH will put PY back to NRT-JFK this fall. You might be able to get PY fare priced out soon

I totally agree with you! NH's premium economy is not competitive at all! I really don't understand why they had to price it so high

By the way, I just took NH1005 from LAX to HND 3 weeks ago. I fly once or twice a year to Japan via NH, I am just a regular Mileage Club member, not elite at all. But my husband and I were both upgraded to PY the day before takeoff. I still don't understand why they would pick us but we were quite happy to try out PY. I personally feel that regular economy class exit row is more comfortable than PY seating. I would not pay for PY myself since I don't think it is worth that kind of money (like you said it's almost like a discounted buz class ticket), but I will take a free upgrade anytime ;)
