I just read that AmazonLocal wants to compete with Groupon and others and is offering a $10 gift card for $5 to lure people in. The card will also be useable at Amazon.com. The cards are available tomorrow (3/20/12) in "limited quantity".

Do you know when "tomorrow" starts for them?

The current deal on the Chicago page expires at 2 AM CT, so I'm guessing the new deal will take effect at that time.

I'm all for a deal, but I'm not waking up that early to buy a gift card. :)

They did something similar through Groupon last year where they offered $20 GCs for $10. Guess they decided to cut out the middle man this year. :)

They have never done it with Groupon. That is impossible.

They did the promo with LivingSocial. Amazon owns a significant chunk of LivingSocial so I don't understand why they're running Amazon Local. I guess this daily deals business is way too easy to copy. I can see GRPN stock tanking in the next few years. If you want to lose some quick money, buy some of that stock.

I just bought 3. You have to use a different credit card with each account, otherwise it won't let you buy it again

I thought it said "one per household"

Fantastic, thanks for that, works with foreign credit cards as well.

Used two different accounts to get the discount then loaded the two vouchers on one account.

Should also qualify for %5 CashBack if you use Chase Freedom (and you registered for the %5 @ Amazon.com promotion for this quarter).

I was able to buy one each for me and the missus and went through the Hawaiian Air shopping portal to get the whopping 5 miles (not sure if Local purchases count though). It would not let me buy more than one on the same account, regardless of the payment method.

Waiting for the second voucher to be finalized. :)

They've caught on. Anybody with double purchases will have those purchases canceled.

i'm talking about the processing of the vouchers. if they find out its the same household, they don't even process a voucher for you.

Yes. They were available within a few hours of your purchase.

I haven't. If you look at Slickdeals there are people who got their 80 out of 80 cards and there are also people who are still waiting for it like us.

It seems that if you ordered your card earlier in the day, then you get it pretty much rightaway. I placed my order late so I guess they need the time to screen people for multiple purchases.

OK, just wondering because when I bought it late yesterday afternoon, it said it would be available to me "within a few hours in my e-mail," but I haven't received it yet. And yes, I've checked my spam folder.

I bought three with 3 different email accounts & different credit cards but all the same address. I got confirmation of all three. Are you saying that you now know that 2 of those won't be honored?

Got the mail confirmation first thing this morning, and linked to the code for the credit. Emailed at approx 6am EST.

If you haven't seen the confirmation e-mail, try logging into your Amazon Local account, and click on "Your Vouchers" at the top of the home page. If the $10 credit has been issued, it will appear there. (You won't be getting a card in the mail.)

Once your voucher appears, you can load it into your Amazon account, and the credit will automatically appear the next time you place an Amazon order. (You won't have to worry about losing the card, or forgetting that you had it.)

I moved all three of mine to my main Amazon account and they are still showing up so maybe I just slipped past the gatekeepers. I guess I had better spend it soon in case I get busted but I don't think I will.

I received the $5 offer on my Kindle, and signed up right away and have already used my $10 credit
