Okay, I'm not really a newbie. I've had a Priority Club account since 1994. I used to stay there a lot, but I haven't stayed at a HI in about 5 years. I've always gotten air miles (AA), so I have 0 point balance.

I've got a stay coming up in May, 5 days, 2 rooms. I've registered for the double w/visa promo, just in case I have a second stay. Any other pre-stay advice?

Am I better off earning points, or should I stick with miles? And can I get credit for both rooms, or only one?

Thanks in advance,

Stick to the miles if you don't plan on becoming gold (20 nights) or platinum (50 nights) anytime soon. For gold, you only get 10% bonus but only if you collect points. And for platinum, you get 50% bonus same again if you were to collect points. I got AA miles instead but had to switch to points to get the 10% bonus after gold. I only have 4 more nights to be platinum and once I have my bonus points, I can convert to AA miles. It's 1 mile for 2.5 points so it works out the same. Don't forget to go and register to win 1,000,000 points a day. You will never know...

Oh, you can only get credit for one room, not both.
