LAN LANPASS - LAN Classic reward availability... Starwood Xfer

Hi everyone,

I am considering cashing in 20K Starwood points to LAN Km in efforts to book a ticket at the 48Km RT level. After seeing everyone's nightmares with the Starwood xfer I have second guesses, but after playing with the LAN site ad nauseam I have not been able to find a single award at the 48Km level.

Is there a trick to this? Does anyone know anyone that has booked at this level? I live in LA and fly out of LAX so I would assume availability out of LAX would be good.

I think I may just transfer them to US Air miles with the 50% bonus that US Air is running until the end of March, but if theres hope for LAN Km I would rather do that.

Thanks in advance everyone!

LAN is very hard to find low seats on. Really have to be very active looking. US Airways is similiar situation. Afraid too many miles chasing too few seats.

You can use LAN points on oneworld carriers, including AA. They can be very good value if you use them for short haul flights. For example, you can fly LAX-SFO for 8,000 km one way. Your 48,000 km would give you 3 round trips. For longer haul trips, domestic airline programs offer better value.

Note that LAN's partner award chart is based on distance in kilometers. Go to gcmap.com to determine distances between cities.

While many FT'ers report that their SPG points transfer to LAN in a few days, LAN's agents state that the transfer time is 30-60 days. My own recent transfer took 53 days, so plan accordingly.

For example, you can fly LAX-SFO for 8,000 km R/T.

Interesting. When I look, it is 8,000 each way.. what am I doing wrong?

Sorry, I meant 8,000 SPG points R/T. Still very good value.
