Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - vietnam airlines tix
I'm wanting to travel around Vietnam/Cambodia. Are tickets bought inside the country cheaper than on-line in the US? Has anyone ever booked a "GoAsia" pass through a Skyteam partner and, if so, is this any cheaper? Any other airlines I should consider?

Tickets are cheaper when bought in Vietnam.
When I flew from SGN to HAN, I purchased the ticket stateside in advance from Pacific Airlines, which was less expensive than Vietnam Airlines. I hear that Pacific Airlines has since been acquired by JetStar.

Yep, must be a while back now. They've really given Pacific a makeover.
I've used JetStar many times between HAN and SGN. You can book at http://www.jetstar.com/vn/en/home. Same prices whereever you book. Worth paying the extra for the front row. I'm surprised more people don't bother, usually available when I book.
Only problem is they often cancel flights and put you on the next one (then you'll lose any premium seat). Seems to happen 25% of the time with me. They generally text you the day before, though not sure if it works if you give them a foreign text number. At least you're not hanging around the airport for a long time.
I think the business model is to get as many booking as possible and then optimise by cancelling the least busy flights and shifting people.

I never really need them in Hanoi, but I like these people (have dropped in for a burger once or twice) and they've had nothing but good reports over the years.

Dunno how good they are with flight tickets.
Make sure you go to the right place.

I'm going to Cambodia/Vietnam in July and only have about a week there, so I'm planning to fly between destinations. I'll be arriving in Siem Reap (REP), and departing from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), and would like to spend a couple of days in Hanoi (HAN).
The obvious route would be to fly from REP to HAN, then HAN to SGN. But the REP-HAN route is only served by Vietnam Airlines, and one-way tickets are running over $300 for this flight of less than 2 hours. Tickets on LCCs between HAN and SGN look to be about $75 each way.
Looks like I could fly REP-SGN for about $150 and then get a r/t between SGN and HAN for ~$150, which would save about $100 overall, but require an additional flight, which I don't really want to do given the tight time frame.
Any tips? Is there any chance I could get the REP-HAN ticket for significantly less using a travel agency? I am thinking my time and peace of mind are worth the extra $100, but before I bite the bullet and pay $325 for such a short flight I wanted to see if there were any other options I might have missed!
