After living in BJ for a year, my 2 sons decided on a first time visit to china for a 'spring break' they are 24 & 27, so 5 nights in BJ, & 3 days in SH where they will fly back on the 24th to ORD on the 5 pm flight from PVG.

Hotels; Of course the Marriott NE with EL lounge access, 5 nights for 60,000 points, great pool there & good location. In SH, the new Marriott City Centre and we can then walk to the bund.

Great Wall+ summer Palace- will use C-trip for a GL-8 van, cost is 750 rmb for 8 hours on one day.

Tiananamen & Forbidden city- we will use subway line 10 & 1.

March 17th- Durty Nellies Irish Pub in Chaoyang will be the place to drink Guinness...

Other BJ food, & "NOT" chinese, other than maybe some BJ duck one day;
-german will be the Paulaner, even with the $20 beer price.
-thai flavor- Banana leaf
-pizza- the tree, & more Guinness
-burger- Blue frog, or fatburger
-russian- Pectopah Knebckar Pycb, west side.

Gifts- the genuine imitation ones !, lady street for an hour, its close to the hotel.

Travel to SH from BJ- HSR, on G1, hope they can make this 9am departure out of BJ south.

SH- see the bund & per my son, go to the Vue bar ?. i have never been there !

While I must check with my CEO to see if it's kosher to invite your boys along with me, I'm doing my standard FC, Beihai, Nanluoguxiang tour for a few VIP guests next Friday, starting with lunch at Made in China. (They also want me to do the Great Wall and the Summer Palace with them on Saturday; I'm not certain I'll have the energy for that.)

Saturday... + & -'s

Did a great wall tour in the AM, very foggy day, & as usual on weekends it was crowded. Bought 2 genuine imitation 'Mao' hats for 50 rmb at the entry gate, was only 20 rmb on the way out in the parking lot for the same hat...

We had a small dinner party with friends at the new apt. ( Mixion) , the boys drank 3 of the 5L kegs.
Then on to Durty nellies for the Guinness irish beer !. It was St Patrick's Day, several beers there, then over the bridge to the Paulaner for some german beer... and the band did play till midnight.

Problem was , it was now snowing in BJ, & at 1 am , NO taxi's...and maybe too many beers.

So sunday will be a big breakfast brunch at the hotel, some pool time, then a 2 hour foot massage in Haidian, with a private west side tour.

Odd there is still some snow on the ground from last night .

Last night was a zoo in SLT because St Patrick's Day and the snow; it was packed, and nobody could leave. I had a meeting there that wrapped up at around 10p, and was hoping to head back to Shuangjing immediately thereafter, but that simply wasn't in the cards, so I killed an hour at First Floor before venturing out into the battlefield. Sensing opportunity, the majority of regular taxis had gone onto "pause time", and were quoting extortionate rates. In the end, I paid y40 in order to get home, but I imagine many others got hit up for much more money.

Took the HSR to SH , the train was only 1/2 full...

in Sh we went to the Grand Hyatt for a beer on the 56 th floor, saw the Pudong skyline sights & close up of the Pearl Tower. Had one beer at Hooters with the 'picture'. We took a ferry back to Puxi & a walk on the Bund, then a walk down Nanjing road to the Marriott city Centre. This new Mrt has a great location, & very close to where subway line 2 & 1 intersect, also a super huge EL with a neat evening SH skyline view from the 37th floor.

Morning of their last day in China; went to Yu Garden & old town area & did the SH snack foods. Then a day walk on the Bund before checking out of the hotel & heading to the Pudong airport for the 5pm to Chicago.

SH tour is easy to do in a day & 1/2 if you have a late afternoon flight.

Spring weather now in SH, hoping it gets to BJ soon. A BJ surprise for me was the Summer Palace walk around tour. We could of spent a day there if the flowers would be in bloom, so hoping the spring weather comes soon.
