No way Walmart has a chance, Costco in Beverly Hills already dominates the market. :) :) Next up for Ginza: Mitsukoshi converts into the world's largest 100 Yen shop. usagishouse Mar 16, 12, 5:11 pm ahaha, nice guys... :) Q Shoe Guy Mar 16, 12, 5:25 pm No way Walmart has a chance, Costco in Beverly Hills already dominates the market. :) :) Next up for Ginza: Mitsukoshi converts into the world's largest 100 Yen shop. Actually that is what they more or less have done to the Mitsukoshi in Shinjuku! LapLap Mar 16, 12, 5:35 pm Saw a TV report this morning. 12 storeys and on the top you can get "Ginza Specials" which included some Orla Kiely goods from under 1,000yen. Just below is the T Shirt Shop. A MASSIVE range of T shirts, again, under 1,000yen many with cute Japanese food and candy logos that have good souvenir and gift potential. I'll be heading there as the baby range isn't available in the UK. I'm a big fan of Uniqlo's tiny legwarmers and it's toilet training time for LapInfant so a surplus of leggings that actually come up to her tummy are much valued (all the British designs are cut like hipster jeans - showing off half a nappy clad bottom is not a flattering look) RichardInSF Mar 16, 12, 7:10 pm ....I'm a big fan of Uniqlo's tiny legwarmers and it's toilet training time for LapInfant so a surplus of leggings that actually come up to her tummy are much valued (all the British designs are cut like hipster jeans - showing off half a nappy clad bottom is not a flattering look) I know, people keep telling me that. Q Shoe Guy Mar 18, 12, 11:45 pm Actually the real area of interest is the building behind the Uniqlo and attached by glass bridges is the Comme Des Garcons department store @:-) ! jpatokal Apr 3, 12, 7:08 am Went here last week, and was pretty disappointed. It's got exactly the same stuff as your regular Uniqlo outlet, only stretched out vertically over 12 tiny stories, which makes browsing a royal shiri-itami. Even the "massive" range of T-shirts turned out to consists solely of this season's shirts spread out with fancy displays and eyeball-fryingly bright LED lighting: absolutely zero shirts from previous years etc. Only the topmost floor has anything different, namely a few rags from the "Uniqlo meets [Obscure Fashion Brand]" collection of the day, and it's also where everybody seems to head because, hey, 限定品! Not worth a detour in my book. :td: On the upside, Sushi Kurosu (http://r.tabelog.com/tokyo/A1301/A130101/13051326/) (くろ寿), a stone's throw from Uniqlo right behind the aforementioned CdG store, does a pretty awesome hitorimae-nigiri lunch set for 2830 yen. ^ It's a tiny little place (5 counter seats and nothing more) up a tiny stairway with absolutely zero signage in English, but owner Kurosu-san is a very affable young guy who whips up some pretty good stuff in front of your eyes, and (I asked) he's happy to welcome non-Japanese speakers. Extra pun points for the brown sushi rice: he uses dark vinegar, kurosu (黒酢), for preparing it. Just don't wander in for dinner, or you'll pay a more Ginza-like price of Y15,000+ for the privilege... |
