Our company got this e-mail from SAS today:

Dear Customer and Travel Partner,
With effect 04 April, SAS will adjust the applicable fuel surcharge on Domestic, Intra-Scandinavian, European and Intercontinental sectors as stated hereunder.

Since our last revision in December 2011 we have been facing even higher fuel prices for which we now need to compensate for. We see a need to adjust and harmonize our Intra-Scandinavian and Domestic surcharges levels, as we see these markets more as one. This will secure our hub structure via Copenhagen from where we serve a large number of European and Intercontinental destinations. The lowest classes will also be adjusted to secure an overall price competitiveness.

As communicated earlier we always carefully assess the market development and therefore need to undertake these changes as from above date. We wish to give you this advance notice in consideration of our good business relationship.

EUR Today New
Domestic 21 25
Intrascand 36 25
Europe 36 43
K-class 36 35
L-class 27 25
T-class 21 20
O-class 15 15
Intercont (PoO EU) 130 142

The changes will apply for tickets issued as from 04 April, 2012. We thank you for your understanding and continuous support.

Yours sincerely,
Scandinavian Airlines System
Christian Hylander, Senior Vice President, Sales

Our company got this e-mail from SAS today:

Good thing my O-class ticket uses up less fuel. Shame on all of you flying those K-class fares that require more fuel:eek::p:D

Yes, this illustrates very well what a joke fuel surcharge is. How can same seat have different surcharge?
To confuse the customer even more they are bundling fuel and security surcharges.
They should be more honest and just adjust the base price instead of having the fuel surcharge.

Business Travel News in a March 15, 2012 report says that USA Dept of Transportation may add teeth to Fuel Surcharge Rules.....

According to the report, DOT has issued a notice to carriers that fuel surcharges "must accurately reflect the actual costs of the service covered."
See the report here:

I think the OP should send the e-mail to media or transport ministry.
