Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, and Other Partners) - Discrepancy between miles promised in Reservation Confirmation and those awarded

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, prompted to join by my increasing frustration with Flying Blue repeatedly leaving me short of miles. For the most part, it has been just a small number of miles and not worth fighting about - to me at least. However, on a recent intercontinental trip, my KLM Reservation Confirmation indicated that I would receive 6466 miles each way. Along with my 50% elite bonus then, I was expecting to receive 12932 level miles and 19398 award miles. In fact, I was awarded 4662 miles each way, meaning that including the 50% elite bonus, the award miles for the trip were 13688 - more than 5000 miles less than I expected!
My complaints to Flying Blue have resulted in them giving me 2000 extra miles to make up for this "misinformation". Am I crazy to think that I have a right as a consumer to what was promised in my confirmation? Or does this not come under consumer law? Has this happened to anyone else? Have you found a way to resolve this? Or should I just admit defeat, be happy with Flying Blue's 2000 additional miles and drop it?

Welcome to Flyertalk!
The amount of mileage displayed during a reservation or in Manage My Booking is often NOT correct.
For a correct number of the miles you'll earn, check the miles finder on KLM.com.
The 2000 miles is the 'general' compensation for Silvers. You should be happy with them. :)

But be aware and check the class of your ticket, you can earn 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the miles you actually fly (assuming you flew economy). Just checking the miles finder gives you only the actual miles of the flight.

If you know the fare percentage of earning (see the fare table), the miles finder is very extensive and gives the mileage corresponding with the fare percentage including any Elite bonus.

Thanks ^ I did not know this! Tells you how often I check the Miles Finder (probably a long time ago). But for the past year or more the KLM website has given me correct award miles on my bookings in the system.
By the way, I also noticed the online system is now providing correct information on pieces of luggage you can take, inlcuding the extra luggage of being Elite (plus).....

With the luggage IME, MMB, printed reservation and the screen during the booking are giving different numbers.
MMB still shows an extra 5kg under Silver benefits. :td::rolleyes:

I don't completely agree.
Yes, the specific pages will probably tell you that the amount of miles that the OP received is correct, and the numbers at the booking engine are wrong. However as a not so frequent flyer one does not know these additional pages exist, as there is no need for them: The booking engine shows the miles accrual right there!
And imho, if KLM messes up the miles count for their own flights, with their own Frequent Flyer program, its up to them to fix the problem. One should be able to trust the KLM website. You can't say to somebody: Actually that part of the site is right, but that other part is not. Its up to you to trust the 'right' part of the site. There is no way to justify that to customers, especially the ones that are not experienced with these things.

This is my thinking!! I also think that of all things, an email confirming what exactly you have paid for - the details of your flights, any special seating and yes, mileage - should be correct. I should be able to believe a KLM confirmation without having to go to the mileage calculator and check their work for them!
On that note, I actually went to the mileage calculator and did all of the maths for my last couple of trips and realised that they left me short about 3000 miles on a trip in October! So, I suppose I'll be filling in yet another online contact form... I just find the whole idea that I have to beg for miles that I should have been awarded automatically really irritating!
