After my LA847 IPC-LIM flight (85 mins between flights at LIM), I will have a string of 5 segments on DL (all in the US), LIM-ATL-xxx-xxx-yyy-yyy-yyy, over two different PNRs, for back-to-back ticketing (please disregard why I even created my trip this way, complicated story).

Obvious question, even though I am a J pax, because of the connection time in LIM, I NEED to interline my 1 checked bag, right?
Besides the number of segments increasing my chance for lost luggage, anybody see any issues I should prepare for?
Do I just need a copy of each of my continuing itineraries on DL to show to the check-in agents at IPC?

I know that on DL, this many segments needs to be put in manually on the luggage tag. Is it the same with LA? IPC is a small airport. Will it be a hassle to get the LA agents to put all those DL segments on the tag?

My advice would be to try to have IPC check your bags IPC-LIM-ATL. You will have to claim your bags before you go through US customs and recheck them at the DL counter, anyways, so you can deal with the crazy DL itin at the DL counter in the US.

The only issue I would be prepared for: Is there an baggage interlining agreement between LAN and DL? If you do not have an interline ticket with LAN and DL on the same ticket, why should LAN check your bags though to a DL flight on a different ticket? And which airline's baggage fees apply?

Here are some other threads about LAN interlining:

+1 - While it is theoretically feasible to link more than 4 segments on 2 PNR's, you are completely at the mercy of the competency of the CSR at IPC who checks you in. This is particularly true of an automated airport such as ATL where it doesn't take much to make things go wrong.

Because you will clear Customs at ATL and will therefore claim and recheck your luggage anyway, it is a natural breakpoint. So check your bags to ATL and then xATL for the remainder of your DL itinerary.

Call LAN to confirm that they will interline to DL and then double check the actual tags to make sure they are correct at IPC.
