Does anyone have a clear idea of the rules and regulations as well as the general airlines experience of travelling with an expectant mother..?

I need to travel with my S-i-L from BLR to CCU and need to have a clear idea of what to expect and what modalities I need to complete before I head for the airport..

Depends on how advanced the pregnancy is...

I don't think there are any special rules before the 30th week... Or maybe 32nd? Of course, you should be able to prove that it is before the 30th (or 32nd) week...

Edit: A2A's links clarifies - 32nd week

It really depends. Certain airlines let until 36 weeks included others only 32.
But don't forget to bring a letter from the doctor stating where she's holding.
As for example SN airlines requires it from the moment the pregnancy requires it and want let you fly with them

this is good advice....a letter from the doctor is very important....

I guess I should have been more explicit in my post..

I am aware of the basic rules of this situation.. 9W for e.g. will let you fly without an accompanying doctor till 36 weeks..

I am more interested in the nuances of flying.. if someone has had an experience with 9W or AI or 6E, that would guide me as to the un-written stuff I should be aware of..

My wife was allowed to fly in her 8th month with a doctor's certificate.

When a woman is heavily pregnant, you - or a gynaec for that matter - can't just glance at her stomach and say "yes, she is 34 weeks, and that other woman is 36 weeks".

So the airline will insist on a gynecologist's certificate that the woman is fit to fly. And the gynec might recommend treatment (a pill or an injection) to stabilize the fetus so that turbulence for example doesn't cause any damage, so that's always a good precaution to take before a pregnant woman travels.

I guess I should have been more explicit in my post..
