Personally I especially like the $50 back on a $100 TicketMaster purchase. Unfortunately we only have a total of two Amex cards in my household, I wish I was like those FT'ers that had literally dozens of Amex cards and as a result made thousands of dollars on the Amex "Gift Chain" promo this past holiday season.

Now suppose you sign up for both this promo and the $10 off a $50 purchase using the same card. If you spend $75, would you get $20, $10, or both ($30)?

Hello, my name is Michael and I'm an idiot.
(Pause for acknowledgment.)
I wasn't always an idiot. In fact, some of you have met my wife, looked at whom I married, looked at whom she married and then decided that I'm very smart and she isn't. But I'm officially an idiot now.
I got my $10 off $50 at Whole Foods offer and I was happy.
Then, I signed up for the 20% off $75 at Whole Foods and realized I could get a great rebate with $75 spend.
So I took the whole family to Whole Foods for a Sunday drive. We have a huge one in Dedham, MA and it's a nice adventure. But I ran into a problem: We bought a ton of cheese, produce, etc. and I just couldn't hit the $75. The bill came out to $49.60. So I bought a little candy for my kids. We're now at $50.60. So I got the brilliant idea to buy a $25 gift card. Now at $75.60, with $25.12 coming back to me.
So I paid with my Amex. I needed $10,000 in spending to hit my minimum for bonus points, so this was a fraction of a percent, but every bit counts and I've been using the Amex for every purchase.
It was only a few minutes ago that I realized that I had registered a different Amex.

Yes and no. While it is linked to the individual account - some of us have thought ahead (primarily due to promos of years past), and set up individual logins for each card. Also, secondary and primary accounts are coded differently - so they each have their own logins/accounts as well.

As others have said - we all do it in the chase for points/miles/$$$$. A few months ago I was negotiating the price on a 5ct diamond bracelet for my wife - woke up in the morning and found my offer had been accepted. I was so shocked I quickly used PayPal to pay for it. Later that day I realized I had used my "default" credit card from my old job (no points - no miles - not even a kiss). I was beside myself. But I screwed up the courage to contact the company, explained my idiocy, and they cancelled the payment and re-billed me :-)

I loaded the $10 back on Panera deal late last night. Then it was gone this morning. Since I was passing by a Panera on my way home from work today, I decided to stop and buy a $10 gift card, figuring it was low risk (I'll eat there anyway). 15 minutes after the purchase on my synced card, I got an email from AMEX saying I'd saved $10 and expect a statement credit in 3-5 days.
