Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - SAA credit card required at check-in?

I am interested in buying tickets with South African Airways for a trip with a friend in August but I don't have a big enough limit on my credit card to pay for us both. My father offered to let me use his credit card but I read SAA requires that you present the credit card you used to purchase the tickets at check-in or else they won't let you board. Is that true? If so, is there anything I can do?

Thanks!

I buy tickets over the phone for other people and yes there is a credit authorization form that needs to filled out by the credit card holder. This is referred to as a sponsored booking.

Thanks but at this link, it says the ticket holder only needs to show ID like a passport...

It's an anti-fraud issue and is more focused on certain locations and certain spending patterns than others. Not an SAA issue in particular.

My experience with SAA is that they want to see the CC the first time you check in (i.e. for the outbound sector). After that they dont ask for it anymore.

Maybe they are not using the form anymore. I am pretty sure though as of Aug. '11 I still needed to fill one out for 4 tickets I purchased for other people. I looked on the website and couldn't find the form anymore either, but I always had trouble finding it.

This has also been my experience when I am the one flying.

Well I now have the money to book the flight but I'm not sure I'm ready for the 17 hour direct flight from Washington DC to Johannesburg LOL. I don't know how I'll survive in economy!

You'll survive easier on SA than on most other airlines, better seat pitch! Still, 17 hrs in Y is not fun on any airline....:o

I've done that flight many times and the stop in DKR breaks up the trip a little although I prefer the non stop now from JFK.

Y isn't bad and they have the AVOD which entertains me. I also can sleep on planes fairly easily which is crucial for long haul Y.

My flight is now booked. :D I can't really sleep on planes unless I'm totally exhausted but oh well, I guess I just have to tough it out.
