My daughter has been trying to register with Flying Blue for some time now but with no luck. Completing the online registration form she receives the message that there is a technical error although she has completed all the fields correctly. Emailed Flying Blue and told to ring the number 0870 2429 242. When you ring the number you are told to input your 10 digit Flying Blue number and without it they are unable to take your call. Any advice please, need to get this done uregently.

Which AirFrance website are you using? What browser?
Just try registering from scratch from a new computer, different browser and different website (www.airfrance.fr).

Thanks Mahme - have tried this from three different computers, iphone, IE7, Firefox and Chrome (and from two different continents!!!). Didn't realise there was more than one website though so will try that next. Many thanks.

Or how about trying KLM's registration page (https://www.klm.com/passage/account/lightbox/registerInfo.htm?country=gb&lang=en&carrier=KL)?

Have tried the AirFrance (all in French) but this didn't work either. Couldn't get any further than the passcode on this - it kept saying wrong number.
It would have been okay for me if it had worked but my daughter probably wouldn't have been able to understand it, being in French!!!
Have emailed them again so will see what happens this time.
Having looked through all the details of benefits etc. it doesn't look as if this would help with her current problem. When she flew out she was allowed two bags but on the flight back she is only allowed one bag and thought that she would be able to take two bags with the Flying Blue programme but doesn't look as if this is possible at this stage.

Having a basic Flying Blue account doesn't entitle you to extra baggage anyway.

When enrolling, you are asked to create your own 4-digit PIN code.
If this is where you are getting the error, then it can only mean one of very few things:
1) You are not typing the same 4-digit code in the confirmation box. You must pick a 4-digit code, enter it, then re-confirm by entering it a second time (see the image below)
http://i43.tinypic.com/287cw.jpg
2) You are selecting an "unsafe" or "unsecure" sequence which could be easily guessed - such as 1234 or 0000 - and which is therefore being rejected by the system to force you to pick a "better" number (But I don't know if the system does this type of check).
Just to be entirely sure - are you sure that you are filling out the New User registration form, which is found here (https://www.airfrance.co.uk/cgi-bin/AF/GB/en/local/myaccount/popin/popin_enroll_fb.jsp#/klm/passage/account/common/registerFlyingBlueMember.htm)?
Note also that, if the e-mail address you are using has previously been associated with an existing Flying Blue account (or perhaps, just with an Air France or KLM website profile) that this may also cause problems. It's not allowed for one person to have more than one Flying Blue account, so you must use an email address that is not already associated with a Flying Blue account.

Have tried the KLM site and having the same problem there - an unexpected technical error has occurred. Have checked and rechecked the pin code but no problem with that - deliberately tried using two different numbers and it came up with a different error message.
There's probably no point going any further with this at the moment - I think my daughter has already spent more on phone calls/internet usage than she would have saved on paying baggage allowance anyway and it does not seem as if she would have been able to save this anyway on first registration.

Going a bit OT but is this also the case if you've officially cancelled your account?

I don't know...if FB completely erased all the data, then it should be OK - but if the "memory" of that email address remained somewhere in the system, it could cause problems when later trying to re-register with the same email address.

Have now managed to register with Air France (using my email address) and clicked on the link to "upgrade to Flying Blue" but now get the message that this email address (the one I used to sign up to Air France) is already in use and to choose another email address.

Once again I have received an email from Flying Blue advising me that I should phone again and wait on the line and if I do not have my membership number I will be redirected to a representative. Had tried this at least 20 times before and it just cut me off each time saying that if I do not have my number they cannot route my call.
Surprise, surprise, this time it worked and they gave me the option of pressing 2 if I did not have my membership and 3 if I was not already a member. I duly pressed 3 and was told that I could find out all details about joining on the website and thank you for calling. Tried several more times, each time with varying results as I also tried different languages and pressing different options but still couldn't get through to talk to anyone.
If you have access to Facebook, I suggest you [I]like[I] the KLM page, and explain your situation there. They should be able to direct your enquiry to customer relations.

Thanks Koc - will try that. I did receive an email from Flying Blue two days ago saying that they would get someone to phone me but haven't had a call yet.
It will be too late soon as my daughter will be on her way back soon.

I have been trying to sign up for for Flying Blue for 6 weeks now, using both AF and KLM websites, on different computers (but both Apple) and after reading the above post, using different PINs. I always get the error message "Were [sic] sorry, an unexpected technical error occurred. Please try again later or contact the Air France help desk." I am close to giving up - is a scheme where it is impossible to sign up really one I want to start using?

I have also been trying to register with Flying Blue for a couple of weeks - same technical error message.
Have used different machines and browsers, tried starting from Air France, KLM and Kenya Airways.
Cannot email their service desk as it requires me to have a Flying Blue membership!

Why not ring them? If they can't sort out why you can't enrol, then perhaps they can enroll you manually, over the phone.

I've had the same problem for weeks now. Tried calling the various customer service lines this morning but the only one that actually worked required me to enter my Flying Blue membership number. I'm getting cheesed off to say the least!
Can anyone tell me where the link is on the website to "upgrade to Flying Blue" that I received in my Air France account email? Another delightfully helpful email from Air France. KLM aren't much better either at handling this.

It's just the regular Flying Blue sign up URL (https://www.airfrance.us/cgi-bin/AF/US/en/local/myaccount/popin/popin_enroll_fb.jsp#/klm/passage/account/common/registerFlyingBlueMember.htm).

I have had the same problem for 3 months, I cannot believe any company is so stupid not to fix this error, they must hate customers with a passion!

I really can't imagine what all of you must be doing wrong!
If Flying Blue had no new signups in the last 3 (or more) months they would have noticed, and if there was a problem, they would have corrected it.
I just managed to create a brand new account for a fictitious person. Again, I can't see what you are doing wrong.

I managed to sign up a couple of weeks back but now cannot register my family members for their own accounts. Extremely frustrating and like previous posters, I haven't been able to get through to anyone at Flying Blue!
Was anyone able to find a definitive solution here?
try with another browser after removing all cache and cookies. It might solve a lot of the problems linked with their website.

I had the same problem a few years back when signing up. Forgot how I fixed it but try using the Netherlands website (https://www.klm.com/travel/nl_en/apps/myaccount/myahome.htm?country=nl&lang=en&carrier=KL#/passage/account/common/registerFlyingBlueMember.htm?country=nl&lang=en&carrier=KL&_=1346314259164), otherwise ask for a form when you are on the plane. If you do the latter step, the miles for that KLM/Air France will be accumulated.
Thanks, unfortunately still no luck
The paper option won't work unfortunately as our upcoming flights are Delta. Had considered joining SkyMiles but their International Origination fees for redemptions have really put me off.
If anyone does come up with a solution for this, please do post it.

The paper option doesn't seem to be an option anymore. I've had the same trouble trying to sign up my husband and stepdaughter for this programme. Air France online CS told me to just sign up at the airport, and the actual AF staff in both UK and CDG told me they are no longer given any paper forms to enroll new FLyingBlue members, as it is all supposed to be done online. Fantastic.
I've had that same error trying to sign them up online since June. It is still the same error today. Can't believe this has been going on since March!
I have the same problems. I've wasted an hour trying various browsers, emails, passwords, etc. I tried both KLM and air France. I tried signing up for the website then registering for miles. Nothing worked. Very frustrating.
It's funny that they seem to not want new members.
Perhaps there's something that those of us with this problem have in common that's causing a problem on their website.

I've been trying to sign up for a couple of days - my problem is that there is no drop down options in the DOB field for day and year and you can't type them in - of course when I get to the end it tells me to go back and correct the errors:mad: I've just tried the UK telephone number but it costs 3p + 7. something pence per minute. I can't email as it won't open an email form without the FB membership number - is there a general email address for FB?

You might try the AF or KL website of another country.

Thanks - I couldn't get any KL page to work - tried Ireland Indonesia and the Netherlands - the Air France UK page wouldn't load but eventually managed to join up on the AF French page. Why so difficult I wonder?

Same on KLM & flyingblue sites:
Were sorry, an unexpected technical error occurred. Please try again later or contact the Air France help desk
I've been trying to register on and off now for nearly 6 months.
Flyingblue won't renew my Petroleum card as I haven't done enough miles. I've flown Southampton-...-Bergen maybe 12x over the year but apparently this doesn't count as KLM - presumably operated through another carrier. Should have been using my SAS card maybe.
So I thought I'd apply again, use that card separately, maybe even forgo the pathetic amount of points I have later on but otherwise put the points on the old card.
Really annoying this not to get anything out of reward... but this is all offtopic...
Surely we can print .pdf and mail it?

If I could just see a screenshot of what it should look like then I could write the letter manually...
