Avis - Reservation Quote in Wrong Currency

I went on the Avis/FB reservation site and got a very good discounted price on a reservation. It's confirmed, but in British Pounds. (Rental is in the US). When I called Avis, they said they couldn't change it, as the "rate varies". The regular Avis site quote is MUCH higher priced.
Hmmm. I've had issues at rental counters with quotes in the wrong currency, notably in Europe when I had a quote in $Dollars, and I don't want to have any battles like that again.
Any suggestions on getting my reservation quote in dollars?
Can't you cancel and rebook again?

Won't help.
When you use the special Avis/FB (Flying Blue) website, the quote always comes up in British Pounds. It's a great price at $1.62/pound, but I am nervous that there will be some extra footwork at the check out counter-- they always look for loopholes to charge more, and I had a real issue with a quote in dollars in Italy a couple of years back-- so I always prefer quotes in local currency--

Did you select Pay Now price or Pay Later Price?
Pay Now = Amount will be debited from your card immediatley
Pay Later = You will pay on return in local currency, sterling rate quoted is approx as exchange rate varies day to day.

The "Pay Now" terms are extremely complicated, they issue some sort of voucher to be presented for payment. Even with that option, the turn in desk seems to have to convert the currency somehow. I want to avoid that. Not to mention the tricky things one has to do to change or cancel a "pay now" reservation.
I don't know if it's true, but base on my renting experience with Avis (I live in Sweden), everytime when I booked a car abroad, 2 currencies show up - local currency and home currency. In US I'm asked once if I'd like to be charged in USD or SEK (the other times I made sure it's charged in USD), and I always pick USD because I was worried about DCC.
The only time that I was charged EUR without my consent was in France.
IMO as long as you have your reservation shows in 2 currencies, then Avis can't really change anything - you are agreed to pay the amount stated in your booking, not a dime more.

OK, but the quote is ONLY in British Pounds. This was a transaction made by an American for an American-located rental. So I'm a little queasy about it.

I just made a booking for a rental in the US and I decided to go through ebates to avis.com (5% cash back), and then use the AWD W300012. I got the rate cheaper then FB.
I used to use FB Avis but they seem to be more expensive nowadays.
