Sure that train is excellent to get from Paris to Brussels, but if you want to go on a road trip to see Reims, Lille, and perhaps Brugge, then the train isn't my preferred solution.

Surprisingly not. On weekends I only found expensive cars, but a one week rental starting on a Friday can be had for just over 200 euros. That doesn't sound too expensive to me.
