Are you simply connecting or staying in TYO for a couple of days before flying to HKG?

My impression is that CX doesn't use their best aircraft on intra-Asia flights, meaning no flat bed. If that is the case, I would pick between the two based on schedule.

Both CX and JL sends their regional bird to HKG so it doesnt differ that much. Normally CX sends A333 and JL sends B772 or B763. Nothing to write home on service.

NO JAL normally doesn't use 772 on NRT-HKG and the 772 used on HND-HKG has the long-haul products.

JAL uses 767-300ER on JL735/736. Although it has regional seats, it has AVOD with the same long-haul contents. CX on the other hand doesn't have AVOD on their regional A333 and has a trimmed down IFE contents compared to their long-haul flights

I'm on HND-HKG in June on CX and it's showing the 747-400...is that likely to change?

CX usually sends their long-haul planes to HND too but they are also famous for last minute swap

CX for HKG HND is basically guarantee long haul - they all have First Class service on flights and the one have those seat are long haul birds. They may "downgrade" them to 777-300ER but you see nothing lesser than these.
