Hello,
A few threads down is a thread I started about renting a Budget car in Toronto... I went ahead and made my reservation (from Toronto to Niagara Falls one way), and now I have a question about rental insurance.

I've been reading the forums about primary rental coverage through credit cards.... and I have 2 United Mileage Plus Explorer cards (MasterCards) & a Visa Signature Citi Card as well as a Citi AA Mastercard. From what I understand, all of these cards provide primary rental coverage, provided I use the credit card for the entire rental transaction.

My question is the following: For those of you who (unfortunately) had a reason to use the coverage provided by the card, how did everything go? Does the coverage really cover accidents or anything else that may occur whilst in the rental from Budget?

I've never rented a vehicle before, and I'm a bit paranoid; however, I also don't want to pay for Budget's coverage if I don't need to.

Thanks in advance for your advice/comments ^

The credit-card coverage only covers loss or damage to the rented vehicle. It does not provide coverage for damage to others cars or other property, or for bodily injury. There will likely be some coverage for those things from Budget in Canada, and maybe from your personal auto insurance policy, as well, if it covers rental cars driven in Canada.

If you will be using a free-day or dollars-off coupon in conjunction with the rental, check carefully the terms of the credit-card coverage.
